Talking Stories are a set of four stories about a mischievous bear named Gwen. The aim of the stories is to encourage reading. Each story is eight pages long, and comes with a colour printed book. The four stories are Gwen goes to School, Gwen at the Fair, Gwen's Tummy and Gwen's Nose.
If the program runs slowly, increase the size of the font cache. The font cache needs to be at least 64k, or more if there is anything else in it.
Here you will see the first seven pages of Gwen goes to School.
1. Choose a mode with 256 or more colours (e.g. mode 36, 21, 15 or 28 on machines other than the RiscPC). The program will run in other modes, but the colours will not be properly displayed. The font cache must be set to at least 64k, and the font cache limit to at least 256k.
2. Double click on the Fonts directory.
3. Double click on the GwenSchl icon and the story will load and run (with RISC OS 2, double click on the TalkStory icon, which will load it onto the icon bar, then drag the GwenSchl icon down to the TalkStory icon on the icon bar).
4. How to use the software :
Click (using the select button on the mouse) on the speech bubble icon to hear the whole sentence spoken.
Click on an individual word, in either the column of words or in the sentence, to hear it. One word is missing from the written sentence. A click on the correct word in the words column will complete the sentence. The missing word for each picture is displayed within the picture; click on it and it will be spoken.
The 'Restrict move' option on the icon bar menu allows you to choose whether or not the child has to find
Click on the arrows to move through the pages. On the final page, the forwards arrow can return you to the beginning of the story.
5. The Sentence type option from the icon bar menu is not implemented for use on CD ROM.
6. Inaudible sound : check the Configuration status SoundDefault, and set it to 1 7 1. Use the Configure program.
