- HOW TO MAKE A CLIPBOARD CLIPPING FILE
-
- It's easy to make a clipping file of DOS information as you
- move through this health package. Here's how.
-
- First off, a clipping file is just a file you can use to store bits of
- the Guide you electronically clip for future reference, just like you'd
- keep a scrapbook of newspaper articles. You can even add your own notes
- and comments.
-
- This program will create a clipping file called CLIP.TXT. To move
- a section of this guide to CLIP.TXT do the following:
-
- 1) If you press the grey plus (+) and minus (-) keys you can move
- a highlighting bar up and down through the text. Using the plus and
- minus keys, move the highlighting bar to the line of text at which you
- want to start the clipping.
-
- 2) Press the F5 key to anchor the highlight.
-
- 3) Using the cursor keys, extend the highlighting down to
- cover the section of text you want to clip. You can also use
- the PGDN and PGUP keys if the passage is longer than one
- screen.
-
- 4) Once you've highlighted the text you want to clip, do one of the
- following:
-
- a) If you want to append the clipping to the information in the
- CLIP.TXT file hold down the ALT key and, at the same time, press the
- A key.
-
- b) If you want overwrite the information in the CLIP.TXT file with
- the clipping hold down the ALT key and, at the same time, press the O
- key.
-
- CLIP.TXT is an ASCII file. It can be edited and read with most word
- processors. Remember, however, that no material in the Southam Health
- Package Hypertext can be used for anything other than personal purposes
- without the written permission of Southam Inc. see <SYSTEM>.
-
- When you save a section of text to CLIP.TXT the clipping will be
- preceded by an angle-bracketed jump to the file the clipping came from.
- This can be handy to explore if you need to get the context of the
- clipping later on.
-
- To view the clipping file as it is now see <CLIP.TXT>
-
- EXECUTING DOS COMMANDS
-
- To execute a DOS command hold down the ALT key and press the D key at
- the same time (ALT D). No matter where you are in the Guide you will be
- able to execute a single DOS command and return to the Guide after it
- has executed.
-
- For example:
- Hit the ALT-D combination. At the prompt at the bottom of the screen
- type DIR and hit RETURN or ENTER to see a directory listing of the
- current directory
-
- WORD SEARCH
- To search for a word in a file you're reading do the
- following:
-
- To search forward from the screen you're reading press ALT-F
-
- You'll see a SEARCH box appear at the bottom of the screen. Enter the
- word(s) you'd like to search for and hit the RETURN or ENTER key.
-
- To search backward from the screen you're reading press ALT-B
-
- You'll see a SEARCH box appear at the bottom of the screen. Enter the
- word(s) you'd like to search for and hit the RETURN or ENTER key.
-
- This technique will allow you to search a single file for a word. To do
- more complex word searches through the whole health package system use
- the word search feature in the ISSUES menu.
-
- ON-LINE HELP
-
- Remember, for help anytime just press the F1 key.
