- SITUATION

- .body
- We finally got everything settled in our new home when the base commander
- approached me with a mission.
-
- "Smith, we just received a high priority message with your next assignment.
- Sat recon has shown that Russian armored infantry and main battle tanks are
- moving into position to cross the Dnieper. The freedom fighters in western
- Kiev are preparing for an attack. The buildings they are held up in are
- downtown, and they are taking a beating. We need you to fly close air
- support for them. We have two Brits in jump jets to fly with you for weasel
- hunting."
-
- "Sounds good. When can I meet them?"

- MISSION OBJECTIVE

- .body
- The boys from the RAF had very civilized digs in the base. After the
- obligatory offers of tea (with milk!) we talked strategy.
-
- "Here's the plan. We will take off in our Flankers and head north. When we
- pass over Rivne, we will head east to Kiev. You guys will head in first,
- fast and low, to take out the AAA and any SAMs they may have brought. We
- will come in right after you to take out the heavy armor. The freedom
- fighters should be able to handle whatever the infantry throws at them, once
- we remove the tanks. We will return here by flying over our old base."
-
- "Sounds good, Col. Smith. By the way, I understand you have flying time in
- the AV-8. We have two Harriers here that were donated to the Ukraine, but no
- one here seems to know how to fly them. If you like, you could take those
- in."
-
- "Thanks for the offer. I'll think about it. Let's get started."

- You can fly the Harrier jump jet on this mission by playing Mission #10 A.
- But be sure you read all this because the mission text will not be on that
- mission. It is the same exact mission except you are in a Harrier.

- "Jeez, Eagle, look what they did to the old place."
-
- "I guess we got out in time."
-
- "Should we go after them?"
-
- "Too late now. Return to base."

-
- Later in the Commander's office...
-
- "Superb job! There was a lot of armor, bombers and interceptors, but you
- handled yourself extremely well. The ground fire was heavy, but you did an
- excellent job of avoiding it. The freedom fighters were able to force the
- infantry to retreat, but only thanks to you and your crew's help."
-
- "No sweat, Commander. Those Flankers are not as flashy as the Harriers, but
- they've got a lot more hardpoints."

- MISSION FAILURE

- You got flamed, huh? You need to take out the tanks as quickly as possible.
- Send Bear off do do them damage while you deal with the fighters. The freedom
- fighters will have to retreat and will probably be overrun by the Russian
- forces. "The Russians will move into Ukraine," is the last thing that flashes
- through your mind as you plummet to your death.
