  12. INTRODUCTION.
  13. -------------
  14. CyberCom is a direct replacement for the standard Windows 
  15. Communications Driver (COMM.DRV).
  16.  
  17. * Transfer at up to 115,200 KB with a 16550 serial port chip
  18. * Great for V.FAST and Voice modems that require 57,600 Kb
  19. * More reliable Transfer with less overhead on your system - Better
  20.   background operation. 
  21. * Fewer (if any) over/under runs.

  24. HOW DOES IT WORK?
  25. -----------------
  26. Don't worry if the following sounds too complicated - just skip over
  27. it and move on to the Installation...
  28.  
  29. * CyberCom enables the FIFO buffer on the 16550 to be enabled for both
  30. receive AND transmit - COMM.DRV only enables the FIFO for receive. 
  31.  
  32. * The 'interrupt trigger level' has been set to 8 for both transmit and
  33. receive. This gives your applications a lot more time to process
  34. incoming information. COMM.DRV sets the trigger level to 14 which
  35. means that your application only has 2 characters in which read from
  36. the FIFO buffer.

  38. What this means is that your communications applications will get far 
  39. fewer (if any) 'under runs' or 'over runs' when sending or receiving.

  42. INSTALLATION
  43. ------------
  44. 1. Copy CYBERCOM.DRV into your Windows\System directory.
  45.  
  46. Edit the Windows\SYSTEM.INI file and change the following line:
  47.  
  48. From  comm.drv=comm.drv
  49. To    comm.drv=cybercom.drv
  50.  
  51. 2. If you previously have not taken advantage of the 16550 installed
  52. in your computer then ensure that the Windows\SYSTEM.INI file has the
  53. following information:
  54.  
  55. [386Enh]
  56. COMnFIFO=1
  57.  
  58. where n is the number of the COM port.
  59.  
  60. if your 16550 is installed on, say, COM 1 then 
  61.  
  62. [386Enh]
  63. COM1FIFO=1
  64.  
  65. 3. Start or Restart windows.
