- * About StrEd
-
- StrEd is a brief utility for changing the names of the WarCraft II units.
- It was written by me, Daniel Lemberg. You can contact me by e-mail at
- "lemberg@bayserve.net". You can download the most recent version of StrEd
- at "http://www.bayserve.net/~lemberg".
-
- * Using StrEd
-
- Put stred.exe in your WarCraft II directory.
-
- To dump all the unit names from WarCraft II, redirect the output of stred
- to a file, like so: "stred > filename".
-
- Edit the file. Make sure that you don't insert or delete lines, not even
- the blank lines.
-
- When you are finished, run "stred filename" to put your new names into
- WarCraft II.
-
- * Error messages
-
- Error opening filename: This is message is displayed when StrEd can't find
- data\strdat.war (i.e. you didn't put StrEd in your WarCraft II directory),
- or you pass a non-existant file to StrEd as an argument.
-
- Names too long: You can't use more than 1145 characters for all your names.
- Shorten one or two of your names and try again.
-
- Not enough names: You don't have a line for each unit type. You need exactly
- 104 lines in your file.
-
- * Notes
-
- You should keep a copy of the original unit names, so that you can restore
- them. Otherwise, you will have to reinstall WarCraft II to return your unit
- names to normal.
-
- StrEd doesn't change the "Build peon" etc text, just the unit names displayed
- when you click on a unit. It is most useful for changing hero names.
