- Did you know that GEnie's Kumbaya Festival
- RoundTable -- the first of its kind -- will be open
- for only a short time? That's because it's
- dedicated to the exciting Kumbaya Festival taking
- place in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday, September 4th.
- Many of Canada's most popular rock stars will
- perform at this benefit for victims of AIDS and
- their families, and even if you live half a world
- away, you can join in the festivities!
-
- Special Kumbaya events are planned online that you
- won't want to miss. And you can participate
- extensively and still donate to this worthy cause
- since GEnie has decided to waive standard usage
- charges for the entire Kumbaya RoundTable on
- evenings and weekends at up to 2400 baud -- plus
- match your Kumbaya donation of up to $50.00 by
- crediting your GEnie account.
-
- Here's what's happening:
-
- * GEnie representatives in Canada -- potentially
- with you online -- will participate in
- MuchMusic's all-day, coast to coast, live
- broadcast of the Kumbaya Festival on Sunday,
- September 4th.
-
- * Standard usage charges for the Kumbaya
- RoundTable Bulletin Board and Software Libraries
- are being waived now, so you can find out about
- the Festival ahead of time.
-
- * GEnie members wishing to donate to the Kumbaya
- Foundation to benefit AIDS victims will receive
- matching credit to their GEnie accounts of up to
- $50.00.
-
- * Many of Canada's most popular rock stars will be
- available to chat and answer questions in a
- Real-Time Conference on Sunday, September 4th,
- the day and evening of the Festival.
-
- * A fabulous Kumbaya '94 album/CD/cassette is
- available by order online, proceeds from which
- will go to this worthy cause.
-
-
- Live Multimedia Event
-
- GEnie will be featured on Canada's MuchMusic live
- broadcast from the Kumbaya Festival all day Sunday,
- September 4th.
-
- This second annual Kumbaya Festival will feature
- unprecedented, novel pairings and collaborations by
- many of Canada's most popular rock stars including
- 54-40, Alex Lifeson, Ashley MacIsaac, Barney
- Bentall, Blue Rodeo, Cassandra Vasick, Change of
- Heart, Devon, Fifth Column, Doug Gilmour, Holly
- Cole, Jane Arden, Jane Siberry, Jughead Lee Aaron,
- Kim Mitchell, Lost Dakotas, Mae Moore, Micah
- Barnes, Moe Berg, Moxy Fruvous, Murray McLauchlan,
- The Rankin Family, Tomson Imaway, the cast of ROSE,
- Tom Cochrane, and many, many more -- in addition
- to last-minute, surprise guests.
-
- The Kumbaya Bulletin Board and Software Library
- (where you'll find biographies of popular
- performers and information about the festival) are
- free of standard connect charges now, and the
- Kumbaya Real-Time Conference will kick in on
- Sunday, the day of the Festival.
-
- All Day Rockin' RTC
-
- While GEnie representatives participate in the
- Kumbaya Festival live on MuchMusic, the Kumbaya
- RoundTable's Real-Time Conference area will be open
- for you -- again, free of standard connect charges.
- There, you'll be able to chat with sysops and other
- rock music fans, and that evening you'll have a
- chance to chat with some of Canada's most famous
- rock stars as they answer questions and carry on as
- only rock stars can.
-
- Matching Donations
-
- It won't cost you a cent to donate up to $50.00 to
- the Kumbaya Festival.
-
- In an effort to encourage donations to benefit of
- victims of AIDS and their families, GEnie has
- decided to match all donations made online at the
- Kumbaya RoundTable main menu -- up to the amount of
- $50.00 -- by crediting your GEnie account with an
- equal amount.
-
- That menu option -- like the entire Kumbaya
- RoundTable -- is available now, free of standard
- usage charges. Please consider making a donation to
- help counter the devastation of AIDS, especially
- since it won't cost you anything at all.
-
- Kumbaya Album, CD or Cassette
-
- A collection of some of the fabulous music
- performed at Kumbaya is available on an album, CD
- or cassette tape. Order the medium of your choice
- on Menu Option 7 at the Kumbaya RoundTable's main
- menu. Proceeds from these music sales will go to
- the Kumbaya Foundation, and popular rock songs on
- the CD include:
-
- "Good Enough" by Sarah McLachlan
- "Wake Up Willie" by Bruce Cockburn
- "Arrow" by Mae Moore
- "Two Trains Runnin" by Randy Bachman
- "Send Me a Lover" by Celine Dion
- "Little Wild One" by Lori Yates

- "Get Together" by Cassandra Vasik
- "Frankie and Suzie" by Barney Bentall

-
- So feel free (literally) to join the fun in aid of
- a worthy cause at the Kumbaya Festival RoundTable.
- Do so by moving to Page 120 (M120) or typing the
- keyword KUMBAYA at any GEnie prompt -- but do it by
- Sunday, September 4th. The Kumbaya Festival
- RoundTable will close (hopefully only until next
- year) at the end of this year's festivities.
