- ZETAFAX Evaluation System Release Notes - Version 5.00i
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This is an evaluation version of Zetafax, the fax gateway for Windows,
- Windows NT and Windows 95. It is a fully working 5 user version, which
- can be used to send and receive faxes with a Class 2 or Class 2.0
- fax modem. It includes the API toolkit option, though not the API
- developer libraries.
-
- The evaluation system is a slightly cut down version of the full Zetafax
- product, which prints "Zetafax evaluation system" in the background of
- faxes which it sends.
-
- The software should be installed from the machine which has the fax modem
- connected (which will become the fax server, though this does not need
- to be a dedicated PC). If you specify a network drive to install the
- files on, you will be able to configure other workstations on the network
- to run as Zetafax workstations (click on the README icon after
- installation for more details).

- Using Zetafax with Windows NT
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- See the separate WIN-NT.TXT file (in this directory) for information
- about installing and using Zetafax under Windows NT.
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Using Zetafax with Brooktrout and Gammafax intelligent fax boards
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The 32-bit (Intel) Zetafax Server under Windows NT supports Brooktrout fax
- boards (TR111, TR112, TR114 and TruFax models), and Gammafax fax boards.
- These are not supported by this evaluation system.
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Compatibility issues with other software
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. Use with Sun PC NFS
-
- PC NFS uses a special character in file names to identify Unix
- files with names longer than the standard DOS 8+3 format.
- By default this is the tilda character '~'. If you create a
- file on a PC whose name contains this character, then do a
- DIR, the file has a different name (eg "~TEST000.TMP" gets
- stored as "~TEST~RA.TMP").
-
- Zetafax uses file names which contain tilda characters, and
- therefore does not work correctly when PC NFS changes the
- file names in this manner. You can correct the problem by
- telling NFS to use another character (eg '%'). This is done
- by modifying the line which loads PCNFS.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS
- file on each PC, adding a parameter "/C%" to the end - eg
-
- Device = C:\NFS\PCNFS.SYS /C%
-
-
- 2. Running server over Windows NT 3.5 Netware client
-
- There is a compatibility problem between the Windows NT Netware
- client software and certain versions of Novell, causing an error
- when reading data which has just been written. The Zetafax
- server programs check for this problem while running, and if
- detected an error message is displayed and the server will
- be shutdown. If this occurs it may be corrected as follows.
-
- If you are running the server on a Windows NT PC, using a Novell
- server for the shared files, you should install the ServerArea files
- (normally in zfax\SERVER) on the server PCs local disk instead of
- on the fileserver. If you have already installed Zetafax you can
- change this by copying the SERVER directory to the local disk
- (including any empty subdirectories), then editing the [SERVER]
- section in the ZETAFAX.INI file to change the ServerArea: line.
-
- This is due to faults in the standard version of the Netware client
- software for Windows NT when used with older versions of Novell
- (3.11), and therefore may not be necessary with later versions of
- the Netware client.
-
-
- 3. Using embedded addressing under Windows 95
-
- There are two Zetafax printer drivers available for Windows 95,
- the version 4.5 printer driver (which installs as "Zetafax printer")
- and the version 5 driver (which installs as "Zetafax Printer" - note
- the capital "P"!). The Embedded addressing feature in Zetafax, where
- the fax number can be embedded within the document being printed, is
- only supported by the newer driver.
-
- Due to compatibility issues with the version 5 driver when used with
- Microsoft Office 97, this CD evaluation installs the older driver by
- default. If you want to install the newer driver (for example to
- try out embedded addressing) you can do so as follows:
-
- a) Rename file zfax\SYSTEM\i386\ZFPRIN.DRX to ZFPRIN.DRV
- b) Run the Workstation Setup program (WKSETUP.EXE), and choose
- the "update programs" option.
- c) Restart the workstation.
-
- An updated version 5 driver to correct the problem is now available on
- the Zetafax Web site.
