  1. TROUBLESHOOTING DIALOG

  3. The Opera Web browser has been created with a number of customization 
  4. features in mind from the offset. With this in mind, the "Problem 
  5. Solving" dialog box was created to better aid you if your copy of Opera 
  6. crashes. This document contains descriptions of the configurations that 
  7. can be made on this dialog. 
  8.  
  9.  
  10. "Do not load documents on startup" 
  11.  
  12. If this box is ticked when you press the "OK"-button, Opera will open up
  13. without fetching any documents that might have been saved when you last
  14. exited Opera properly. Web documents that contain bad code, malicious
  15. code or code in a language that Opera does not understand may some times
  16. crash the browser, and ticking this box will make sure the browser opens
  17. correctly.

  19. "Minimize number of simultaneous connections" 
  20.  
  21. The number of connections that Opera can possibly have through the
  22. connection software is controlled in the "Connections" part of the
  23. "File/Preferences" dialog, and normally this number can be set quite
  24. high, but on some systems, Opera will not be able to exchange
  25. information with the Internet at the number of connections that can be
  26. made logically, which may result in a crash. Ticking this box will set
  27. the number of connections to a maximum of four (4), preventing this kind
  28. of overload.

  30. "Minimize network buffer size" 
  31.  
  32. Checking this box will set the size of the network buffer very low,
  33. which may be very convenient as having a large network buffer may render
  34. your system very unstable in some cases. The size of the network buffer
  35. will be set to 1 kB for the duration of your Opera session. If you find
  36. that this is beneficial to your system, you may permanently set the size
  37. of the network buffer low in "File/Preferences", "Connections".

  39. "Synchronous DNS" 
  40.  
  41. Normally, Opera uses DNS asynchronously in order to be able to retrieve
  42. information from the Internet in multiple windows at the same time, but
  43. enabling synchronous DNS may be a good idea if you are experiencing
  44. problems with your network's "Winsock" implementation, or if you are
  45. connecting to a server that does not permit asynchronous data transmit.
  46. This setting is toggled in the "File/Preferences", "Connections" menu.
