  17.   Norton Ghost 5.1d is an update for Users of Norton Ghost version
  18.   5. Further information on upgrading and obtaining the latest 
  19.   release versions of Norton Ghost is included on the Symantec 
  20.   Technical Support website:

  25.  1. Copy the Norton Ghost executable file (ghost.exe) into a 
  26.     temporary directory.   
  27.  
  28.  2. Copy your Norton Ghost environment file (a file with an .ENV 
  29.     extension) to this directory. The Norton Ghost environment 
  30.     file was created or supplied when you first installed the 
  31.     version of Norton Ghost you purchased.
  32.  
  33.  4. At the DOS prompt, enter the command line GHOST -#E=XXXXX.ENV 
  34.  
  35.     Note: If your Norton Ghost environment file is named GHOST.ENV 
  36.           then simply execute ghost using the command GHOST with 
  37.           no switches.

  39.     Examples:
  40.  
  41.     If your ENV file is named GHOST.ENV, type:
  42.     GHOST
  43.  
  44.     If your ENV file is named JS1234.ENV, type:
  45.     GHOST -#E=JS1234.ENV
  46.  
  47.     If you did not get the response "Ghost successfully 
  48.     registered", repeat the steps carefully. This command only 
  49.     needs to be successfully executed once. Afterwards, you may 
  50.     execute GHOST normally.

  55.   2. What's new in this release 
  56. ==================================================================
  57.   Since Norton Ghost version 5.1c, The following changes have been 
  58.   made:
  59.  
  60.  1) Update to IDE direct disk access
  61.     --------------------------------
  62.     The IDE direct disk access has been updated to resolve speed 
  63.     and operation issues with some hard disk drives, including 
  64.     Maxtor hard disk drive models.
  65.  
  66.  2) Update to SCSI tape drive device access
  67.     ---------------------------------------
  68.     The SCSI tape drive device access has been updated to improve 
  69.     operation with several high speed tape drives, including 
  70.     streaming devices and the HP DLT4000.
  71.  
  72.  3) Fix for NTFS error message "Bad Used MFT record - run chkdsk"
  73.     -------------------------------------------------------------
  74.     A fix has been applied to resolve the error message:
  75.        ERROR: "Bad Used MFT record - run chkdsk"
  76.  
  77.     and abort message:
  78.        ABORT: "(24010) Bad Used MFT record - run chkdsk"
  79.  
  80.     while cloning an NTFS partition.
  81.  
  82.     If either of these error messages were reported during a
  83.     cloning operation, the created target is incomplete and
  84.     should be recreated.

  86.  4) -SLOWFILE command-line switch added
  87.     -----------------------------------
  88.     A new switch, -SLOWFILE has been added into the Norton Ghost 
  89.     command-line. -SLOWFILE forces Norton Ghost to use a slower 
  90.     alternative read and write method to access an image file. 
  91.     This switch does not affect the disk and partition read and 
  92.     write operations.

  94.  5) -BUFFERSIZE=x command-line switch added
  95.     ---------------------------------------
  96.     A new switch, -BUFFERSIZE has been added into the Norton 
  97.     Ghost command-line. -BUFFERSIZE=x sets the Norton Ghost 
  98.     buffer size used during reading and writing to an image file
  99.     to 'x'K. The buffer size, 'x', can be set from 1 to 32, with
  100.     the default buffer size being 32K. When the -BUFFERSIZE 
  101.     switch is used in conjunction with the -SLOWFILE switch, The
  102.     buffer size may be set to any value including 0, representing 
  103.     buffer disabled. This switch does not affect the disk and 
  104.     partition read and write operations.

  106.  6) Logical partition partition-type corrected on large hard disk
  107.     -------------------------------------------------------------

  110.     The partition-type identifier assigned to the second or 
  111.     subsequent logical partitions within an extended partition 
  112.     straddling the 1024 cylinder barrier has been altered. Norton 
  113.     Ghost version 5.1c assigned the partition-type identifier 
  114.     incorrectly, causing the second or subsequent logical 
  115.     partitions to be inaccessible in some operating systems.

  117.  7) Compatibility patch for Toshiba Libretto 110CT Notebook

  119.     A patch to resolve an issue where Norton Ghost freezes while
  120.     displaying the Image File Locator dialog box on a Toshiba 
  121.     Libretto 110CT notebook.
