- There's something satisfying about trudging up to a pub after a good long walk and settling down to rest those
- aching feet with a pint in your hand. The pub walks series (each book imaginatively titled 'Pub Walks in
- Wiltshire' etc.), published by Countryside Books and retailing about the รบ5 mark, combine a series of circular
- walks with a recommended place to hang up the rucksack. Walks are generally designed to be acceptable to all
- but the pedically challenged, typically ranging from three to six miles. Directions to the pub are clear and
- accompanied by OS map details, plus a sketch map of the walk. Pubs are assessed on appearance, food and
- beer, and are generally selected to be attractive. Standards a probably a trifle lower than in the dedicated guides,
- as the pubs have to be in the right place, but the pub walk books include some interesting inns that don't make it
- into the competition. On the walk points of interest are described, and anyone who fancies the combination of a
- spot of exercise with a good pint should check out the local guide.
