  23. lies at the door of writer William Gibson, but the best known
  24. media cyberimage is the sleazy cross between a high-tech future
  25. and a detective story in the film Blade Runner.

  27. pervaded a good few games, particularly graphical adventures.
  28. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>S</font></font>till very 
  29. playable, the elderly <i>Beneath a Steel Sky</i> 
  30.  puts the wise-cracking hero into a technological nightmare,
  31. while <i>The Pandora Directive</i>'s blockbusting five
  32. CDs contain a superb state-of-the-art rendition of this particular
  33. style. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>I</font></font>n 
  34. <i>Pandora</i> you are trying to find a missing scientist
  35. who was involved with an alien landing, while attempting to keep
  36. your private life together. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>
  37. B</font></font>rilliant.

  39. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>O</font></font>n the 
  40. page, Gibson's Neuromancer seems to define the approach,
  41. but it owes a lot to the glitzy sixties work of Samuel Delaney
  42. and Alfred Bester. 
  43. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>T</font></font>ry 
  44. <i>Babel-17</i> by Delaney or <i>Tiger!
  45. Tiger!</i> and <i>The Demolished Man</i> by Bester to see
  46. where space adventure crosses over into something more bizarre.
  47. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>A</font></font>n 
  48. excellent adventure that pre-guesses much of the online world
  49. is John Brunner's underrated <i>Shockwave Rider</i>. 
  50. <font color="#aa0000"><font size=5>B</font></font>runner is
  51. a hugely variable writer, but here he is on top form, setting
  52. an individual against the wired masses, his scenario is based
  53. on the predictions of Alvin Toffler's predictive best seller,
  54. <i>Future Shock</i></td></tr></table>

  59.  cyberworlds are pretty unattractive, so they fit pretty well
  60. with the disaster story where the earth has undergone

  63. afraid I find disaster
  64. books a turn off, so there are no recommendations there.
