There are two kinds of image that can be viewed in the image window.
Photographs are accessed from the contents grid. When you zoom in to view one box of the grid in close-up, you will see a number of small thumbnail images. (Click on 'Show Example' in this window to see what to expect.) A yellow border indicates that the photograph is related to the Section you are currently investigating. Clicking on one of the thumbnails brings up the image window and displays a full-sized version of the photograph.
Other images - diagrams, illustrations and maps - are linked to particular articles. In lists of headlines a symbol (>>) at the end of a headline indicates that the article has a linked graphic. When you are reading the article in the article window, the 'Linked image' icon appears at the top. Click on this to see the image that is linked to the current article.
Whether you are looking at a photograph or a graphic image, there are three icons at the top of the image window:
Print - Print the image, together with its caption.
Recent - Look at thumbnail versions of the images you have viewed in the current session.
Caption - Display the caption for the current image. Click on the image to remove the caption.
