  4. Installation Instructions

  7. Extract the files from the self extracting executable by typing
  8.  
  9.                 c:\> Z_DEMO.EXE -d
  10.  
  11. at the DOS prompt. The -d will properly create and copy files 
  12. and subdirectories.

  16. DOS USERS
  17.  
  18. To set up your sound card, type SETSOUND from the DOS prompt in the directory
  19. where you installed the demo.  We strongly recommend that you use the
  20. menu items within SETSOUND to test your choices.
  21.  
  22. Z incorporates a system called UniVBE which makes video cards compatible with
  23. VESA Video BIOS Extensions.  This can solve display problems in SVGA mode
  24. and can provide performance improvements on many cards. However UniVBE can
  25. cause instability with some cards.
  26. Its installation defaults to AUTOMATIC which means it will only
  27. install on cards with a VESA standard of less than 1.2  If you wish to
  28. change your settings type SETVIDEO from the DOS prompt in the directory
  29. where you installed the demo.
  30.  
  31. WINDOWS 95 USERS
  32.  
  33. Run the SETUP program that is in the directory where you installed the
  34. demo.  This will set up icons for the actual demo of Z and for SETSOUND
  35. and SETVIDEO, as detailed above.
  36.  
  37. After you have done this please run the SETSOUND program to configure your
  38. sound card.
  39.  
  40. Please note that the demo will not run under Windows 3.x  Please quit
  41. to DOS to install and run the demo.

  43. IMPORTANT
  44. ---------

  46. If, after trying to run the Z demo, you get an error message
  47. informing you of a CRITICAL FILE MISSING, the chances are you
  48. have unzipped the game without recreating the correct directory
  49. structure.

  51. YOU MUST USE THE -d OPTION WHEN EXECUTING THE SELF EXTRACTION

  57. Once correctly extracted, run SETSOUND to configure your sound card.
  58.  
  59. If you have problems with video modes, especially in SVGA, try
  60. running SETVIDEO.
