  17.     1: INTERNET QUOTES
  18. The Internet Quotes connection in Money works directly with the 32-bit 
  19. WinSock included with Windows(r) 95. Most full-service Internet providers 
  20. (those not requiring custom software to access their service) will 
  21. support the 32-bit WinSock. If you have questions about your Internet 
  22. connection compatibility, ask your service if they support the Windows 
  23. 95 32-bit WinSock. Money does not include an Internet service provider.
  24.  
  25. You may also need 32-bit WinSock compatibility to use Online Banking -- 
  26. depending on your bank's type of Online Services.
  27.  
  28. Money's Internet Quotes will start the connection to the 
  29. Internet automatically if your service provider uses the standard connection 
  30. method included with Windows 95. If your provider uses a different method, 
  31. you may need to start your Internet connection before starting Money.

  33.     2: HIGH SPEED MODEMS
  34. Using a high speed modem (faster than 9600 baud) with an older UART 
  35. (the computer chip that controls the serial port) can result in 
  36. transmission errors. Any 14.4 Kbps or faster modem requires the 
  37. 16550AFN UART. Older UARTs might be labelled 8250 or 16450.

  39. To find out what kind of UART your computer has:
  40.  1. On the Windows 95 Start menu, point to Settings, then click Control 
  41. Panel.
  42.  2. Double-click Modems.
  43.  3. Click the Diagnostics tab.
  44.  4. Highlight the port you want to check, then click the More Info button.
  45.  5. Windows will test your modem and report the results.
  46.  6. The type of UART you have will be listed in the Port Information section.
  47.  7. If you have an 8250 or 16450 UART, click OK, then follow steps 8-13. If 
  48. you have a 16550 UART, your hardware is up to date.
  49.  8. Click the General tab.
  50.  9. Click Properties.
  51. 10. Click the Connection tab.
  52. 11. Click Port Settings.
  53. 12. Make sure the Use FIFO Buffers checkbox is NOT checked. Click OK.
  54. 13. Try your modem connection again. If you still have problems, you should 
  55. upgrade your serial card to one with the 16550AFN UART.

  57.     3: DISPLAY COLOUR SETTINGS
  58. Money 97 is designed to work in 256-color mode. It will also run in 16-colour 
  59. mode, but the screens may be difficult to read.
  60.  
  61. To check/change your colour mode:
  62.  1. On the Windows 95 Start menu, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  63.  2. Double-click Display.
  64.  3. Click the Settings tab.
  65.  4. Check the Colour Palette setting to see which mode your computer is 
  66. running in. If your video card supports 256 colours, you'll see that option 
  67. in the Colour Palette drop-down menu.
  68.  5. Choose 256 Colour from the list, then click OK. Windows will ask if you 
  69. want to restart the computer so the change can take effect.

  71.     4: ONLINE SERVICES WITH WINDOWS NT
  72. If you are installing Microsoft Money 97 on Windows NT 4.0, you MUST delete the 
  73. file SCHANNEL.DLL from the Windows SYSTEM32 directory prior to installing Money. 
  74. This is to enable the online banking services to work properly. Money can not 
  75. automatically establish an Internet connection in Windows NT, so NT users must 
  76. start their Internet connection before starting Money to access Online Services. 
  77. Under all versions of Microsoft Windows NT, if you are logged on as a user, during 
  78. setup you will get an error message (number 168) about not being able to save to 
  79. the registry. This is a non-fatal error caused by the Windows NT security model. 
  80. This is caused by the fact that while logged on as a user you do not have 
  81. administrative rights to edit the registry. Restart Windows NT and log on as an 
  82. administrator or as a user with administrative rights, and rerun Money 97 setup.

  85.     5: MICROSOFT MONEY 97 ON MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT VERSION 3.51
  86. If you are running Money 97 in Microsoft Windows NT version 3.51, the Product Tour 
  87. will not launch automatically upon starting Money for the first time. This is a 
  88. know issue in Windows NT 3.51. Product Tour can always be launched by selecting it 
  89. from the Help menu. When running Money under Windows NT 3.51, some of the Tips of 
  90. the Day are truncated. Again, this is a known issue, and this will not affect the 
  91. functionality of the tips in any way. Under Microsoft Windows NT version 3.51 the 
  92. Money 97 Product Tour has a problem repainting the background. This is known 
  93. issue, and it will not affect the functionality of the product.

  95.     6: ONLINE SERVICES CALL SUMMARY
  96. The Call Summary contains information about what information was exchanged 
  97. with your bank during your connection to Online Services. If an error occurs 
  98. during a call, this Call Summary may not appear on subsequent calls in 
  99. the same Money session. Should this happen, you can check the status of 
  100. your transactions by going to the Home Banking area and clicking the 
  101. Payments In Progress tab.

  103.     7: SETUP FAILS TO REGISTER SCHANNEL.DLL
  104. If you use Windows 95 and Money setup fails because it could not register 
  105. Schannel.dll, try removing any networking applications from your Windows 
  106. start-up folder. Then reboot Windows and run Money Setup again.

  108. To remove applications from your start-up folder:
  109.  1. On the Windows 95 Start menu, point to Settings, then click Taskbar.
  110.  2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab.
  111.  3. Under Customize Start Menu, click Remove.
  112.  4. Click the plus sign beside the folder Programs, then click the plus sign 
  113. beside the folder start-up.
  114.  5. Highlight any networking program you see.
  115.  6. Click Remove. This will not delete the program. It will remove it only from the menu.
  116.  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for all of your networking applications, then click 
  117. Close.
  118.  8. Restart Windows and reinstall Money.
  119.  9. To put networking applications back in the start-up folder, see Windows 
  120. Help.

  122.     8: DISPLAY DRIVERS
  123. If you're using an ATI display driver and you notice graphics problems in 
  124. Money -- such as badly drawn graphs and charts, or black bars where your 
  125. account balances should be -- please use the SVGA display driver that is supplied 
  126. with Windows.

  128. To check/change your display driver:
  129.  1. On the Windows 95 Start menu, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  130.  2. Double-click Display.
  131.  3. Click the Settings tab.
  132.  4. Click Change Display Type.
  133.  5. If you see an ATI driver in the Adapter Type field, you may wish to 
  134. change to the Windows driver.
  135.  6. To switch drivers, click the Change button next to the Adapter Type field.
  136.  7. Select Show All Devices, then on the Manufacturers menu, highlight 
  137. (Standard Display Types) from the top of the list.
  138.  8. On the Models menu, highlight Super VGA, then click OK. Windows will ask 
  139. if you want to restart the computer so the change can take effect.

  142.     9: GENERAL INFORMATION 
  143. Please note that, at maximum, 7 digits + 2 decimal places are allowed in any 
  144. amount fields in Microsoft Money 97. If you enter longer figures, "#######" will 
  145. be displayed. This is normal behaviour, and indicates that the maximum length of 
  146. a figure has been exceeded. In order to enter a split transaction, you will have 
  147. to click on the Split button with a mouse. Setting the focus on the Split 
  148. button, and pressing ENTER will not open the split transaction dialog. This is 
  149. known behaviour, and will be fixed for the next version of Money.
