- JPEGview v2.2 April 1998
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- What it is
- ----------
- JPEGview is a Windows '95 viewer for JPEG picture files. It is
- designed for quickly viewing pictures without a lot of filename
- selecting and clicking of buttons.
-
- Features
- --------
- +Full-screen mode
- +Magnification levels
- +Drag-scroll large pictures
- +No filename selection
- +Rename/delete files
- +Drag and drop files
-
- Install
- -------
- The only file you need is 'JPEGview.exe'. Copy it to your Windows
- directory (usually 'C:\Windows') or any other directory of your
- choice. You might want to copy this file ('JPEGview.txt') as well
- for future reference.
-
- If you have an earlier version of JPEGview simply copy the new files
- over the old ones to replace them.
-
- How to use
- ----------
- Run the 'JPEGview.exe' program and select a drive and directory.
- Once a directory is selected, just click the picture window or
- press the space-bar to load each JPEG picture in turn. No filename
- selection necessary.
- (You can of course choose individual files instead).
-
- Large pictures can be scrolled by holding down the left button in
- the picture window and dragging the mouse.
-
- Magnification and Popup menu
- ----------------------------
- Right-click the picture window to show the popup menu. Select a
- magnification level (this will remain the same for all pictures
- until you change it).
-
- From the popup menu you can also select whether the scrollbars are
- 'tracking' or not. Tracking scrollbars scroll the picture as you
- move the bar. Non-tracking scrollbars only scroll the picture when
- you stop moving and release the bar. It may be easier to scroll
- very large pictures by turning tracking scrollbars off.
-
- Full screen view
- ----------------
- To get a near full-screen view for large pictures just click the
- 'Minimise' button on the file select window or in the popup menu.
-
- When in full-screen view a tiny window will remain with a 'Maximise'
- button. Pressing this will return the file window to normal size.
- To remove the tiny window and have nothing on screen but the picture
- just right-click the tiny window.
-
- N.B. You can still right-click the picture to use the popup menu or
- press 'M' on the keyboard to maximise the file window.
-
- Rename and delete files
- -----------------------
- Right-click a filename in the file window to delete or rename it.
-
- Keyboard layout
- ---------------
- 'Space' - load next picture in list
- 'Backspace' - load previous picture in list
- 'Up' and 'Down' - move though the list of files (even when minimised)
- 'Enter' - show selected picture
- 'M' - minimise\maximise file window
- 'ESC' - exit JPEGview
- '1'-'6' - magnify levels ('3'=normal)
-
- Drag and drop
- -------------
- Drag and drop a JPEG file onto the JPEGview program in Explorer
- to load and view the picture immediately.
- You can also drag and drop onto a shortcut to the JPEGview
- program e.g. on your Desktop.
-
- If JPEGview is already open you can drag and drop a JPEG file onto
- the picture window to load and show it.
-
- Default JPEG viewer
- -------------------
- JPEGview can be your default JPEG file viewer; double-clicking a
- JPEG file from anywhere in Windows 95 will then display it with
- JPEGview - a lot quicker than waiting for your web browser to load.
- Look for 'Associating file types with programs' in the Windows help
- for more information.
-
- Adding to Start menu
- --------------------
- You can add JPEGview to your Start menu by;
- a) Select 'Start|Settings|Taskbar|Start Menu Programs|Add'.
- b) Browse for the JPEGview program and double-click it.
- c) Select where on the Start menu the program should appear.
-
- Default directory
- -----------------
- The directory JPEGview defaults to when it loads can be changed by
- sending a directory name as a parameter to the program.
- For example, if the program is in the 'c:\windows' directory
- then entering 'JPEGview d:\art\jpeg' at the 'Run' prompt on the
- Start menu will make JPEGview look in the 'd:\art\jpeg' directory
- first.
-
- It may be easier to make a shortcut to the program and make
- the shortcut always send the parameter. You can do this by
- creating a shortcut to the JPEGview program and then
- right-clicking the shortcut and selecting 'properties|shortcut'.
- Then put your default picture directory in the 'Target' box after
- the program name.
-
- Removing/uninstalling JPEGview
- ------------------------------
- If you think this is a useless program then it is very easy to
- remove completely. Simply delete;
- 'JPEGview.exe' (program file)
- 'JPEGview.txt' (this file)
-
- What, no uninstalling Registry keys or .ini files, no leftover DLLs?
- Sorry.
-
