- What do you get registering Magpie
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Check the Magpie web page for updated information. The URL is:
-
- This is the list of new and improved features included in version 1.1 of
- Magpie, available for registered users.
-
- Note: This and all subsequent versions are sent to registered users free of
- charge.
-
-
- - Print option
-
- Now you can print the exposure sheet on any installed printer.
-
- - Export option
-
- The old "copy to clipboard" option was replaced with a powerful export
- option. You can define your own export formats or just use the default
- formats provided. The output can be directed to the clipboard, a file or
- a printer. With no effort you can export text files matching the
- format of your favourite animation software!
-
- - Lightwave 3D export
-
- You can export your work to be used in a Lightwave 5.0 animation. Three
- formats are supported: MTSEs, the ObjList plugin and the Morph Gizmo plugin.
-
- - Hash Animation Master export
-
- Users of Hash Inc. animation software now can save the exposure sheet
- directly into a muscle action file.
-
- - 3D Studio MAX export
-
- Andrew Reid, a user of Magpie, has developed a MAX plugin that imports
- Magpie files. You can download it from his web site at:
-
- - Video for Windows export
-
- It is possible to render a standard Video for Windows file (*.AVI) with the
- contents of the preview pane.
-
- - Mouth icons
-
- The mouth list pane now has mouth icons to speed up the mouth selection
- process.
-
- - New waveform navigation controls
-
- Now you can move forward or backward in the waveform frame by frame or
- page by page.
-
- - Keyboard shortcuts
-
- Almost every command has a keyboard shortcut. Examples: right and left
- arrows select the next or previous frame; the spacebar plays the currently
- selected frame or range of frames; etc.
-
- Also, you can assign mouths into the exposure sheet using the keyboard.
-
- - Improved editing capabilities
-
- There is an unlimited undo/redo option, and the possibility to insert or
- delete frames from the exposure sheet (without altering the waveform).
-
- - Improved selection
-
- You can extend the current selection pressing the shift key while selecting.
- This feature works in the waveform pane as well as in the exposure sheet.
-
- - Scrubbing
-
- Now you can hear the frames of the sound clip as you drag the mouse over
- the waveform with the right button pressed. Great for fine tuning and
- checking.
-
- - New play options
-
- More play controls: loop play, play while select (same as scrubbing but
- during a frame range selection) and a stop button.
-
- - Slow play
-
- You can play the sound at variable speeds to catch small timing details.
-
- - Play indication
-
- When playing, a mark runs across the waveform showing the frame you're
- hearing.
-
- - Film units in the exposure sheet
-
- Now Magpie show standard film units in the exposure sheet. You can choose
- the units from: timecode, 16mm feet or 35mm feet. You can see more than one
- at the same time too!
-
- - More frame rates
-
- Now you can use any frame rate (even non-standard rates!). Great for
- limited animation, multimedia productions, etc.
-
- Also, you can change the frame rate while you're working. Magpie will
- resize your exposure sheet to the new time adjusting your mouths
- assignments (some manual fine tuning may be necessary, however).
-
- - Improved creation of mouth sets
-
- A new window for creating and modifying mouth sets is now available. You
- can copy a mouth set with a new name and then modify it. No more creating
- mouth sets from scratch.
-
- - Keyframes
-
- If you plan to use Magpie to lip sync dialogue for 3D characters, now you
- can mark the keyframes in the exposure sheet. (You don't need this for
- cartoon animation: you must draw all the frames!).
-
- - Import exposure sheet option
-
- Now you can work with Magpie even if you don't have the definitive
- waveforms. Simply record a rough version of the dialogue and do the lipsync
- with that waveform. When you have the original sound, load it into Magpie
- and import the exposure sheet you did before. Now you just need to do some
- fine tuning by inserting or deleting frames.
