-
- TaskTracker is designed for English-language Windows XP and Windows 2000.
- (International date formats are supported, but some file type names are
- English-specific - for example, "File Folder".)
-
- <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
- Using the First Time
- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
- * After running the Setup Wizard, start TaskTracker the first time from
- your Windows Start menu (All Programs>TaskTracker). After this, TaskTracker
- starts automatically at Windows startup. To change this behavior, select
- Preferences (by right-clicking on the TaskTracker icon in the Windows system
- tray.)
-
- * Tablet PC users require a newer version of a Windows system file to run
- TaskTracker. Install this file from
- http://tasktracker.wordwisesolutions.com/support/TabletPC.
-
- * If you get an "Exiting Application" message the first time you run
- TaskTracker, http://tasktracker.wordwisesolutions.com/support/noshortcuts has
- an explanation and a solution.

- Getting Started
- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
- A user guide with basic, intermediate, and advanced tips and tricks is
- available at http://tasktracker.wordwisesolutions.com/didyouknow.
- Press F1 or click the Did You Know? option (by right-clicking on
- TaskTracker in the Windows system tray.)
-
- * TaskTracker is a System Tray application. You can show or hide it
- from the System Tray. You can leave TaskTracker running all the time, or you
- can close it with the Exit command (by right-clicking on the system tray
- icon.)
-
- * Right-click on the TaskTracker windows for context menus with a wide
- range of file manipulation and other commands.
-
- * TaskTracker allows drag-and-drop in both directions. You can drag files
- that are not being tracked into TaskTracker from My Computer/Explorer.
- You can drag files out of TaskTracker onto your desktop, into Outlook
- or another Microsoft Office application, or into My Computer/Explorer.
- In all cases, TaskTracker copies the files - the originals are never
- moved. (Various copy-paste scenarios are explained in "Did You Know?".)
-
- * If you find that drag-and-drop is only copying filenames to the target
- location, try using TaskTracker's Copy command instead and then use the
- target application's Paste command.
-
- * The About box shows useful status information about how many files
- TaskTracker is tracking. Use the Check for Updates link to check for
- newer versions of TaskTracker.
-
- * TaskTracker has a Show in Taskbar option in the Preferences menu that
- minimizes TaskTracker to the Taskbar. This enables you to Alt+Tab to
- TaskTracker or use a shortcut key you can set for TaskTracker in the Start
- menu. Another benefit is reduced memory usage when minimized.
-
- Attention Network Users! TaskTracker will access network files if
- shortcuts to such files exist on the local system. Under some
- circumstances, this activity could prevent access to the same network
- resource through the Windows file system. If this occurs, simply closing
- TaskTracker temporarily should unlock the network resource.
-
- <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
- Renewing TaskTracker
- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
- TaskTracker renewal is free. The reason TaskTracker expires is to ensure that
- all users have an up-to-date and supportable version.*
-
- From your TaskTracker About box, you can see how many days you've been using
- TaskTracker. Click the Update link after Day 75. If you encounter a problem or
- have a question, send mail to info@wordwisesolutions.com.
-
- *There have been many point releases of TaskTracker since its initial release,
- and this process of refinement and improvement will continue.

- Technical Support
- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
-
- Technical support is available to all TaskTracker users. Priority support
- (within 24 hours) is provided to contributing users.
-
- Send your support issue to support@wordwisesolutions.com
-
- Please include your log files!
- TaskTracker has self-diagnostic capabilities. Once you activate these, you can
- send log files that will make it much easier to solve your unique issue.
- TaskTracker.log reports internal errors that occur inside TaskTracker.
- Snapshot.log reports specific information about the files TaskTracker is
- tracking on your system, including their filenames. For this reason, it is
- entirely your choice whether or not to send this log. The contents of both logs
- can be viewed in Notepad or another text editor.
-
- How to send a log file:
-
- 1. Open the About box by right-clicking on the TaskTracker icon in the
- System Tray and clicking About.
- 2. Right-click in the About box (but away from another control) to open
- the context menu and click to select either or both logging commands:
- Log Errors and Take Snapshot.
- 3. Restart TaskTracker.
- The log files are written to C:\Program Files\TaskTracker, or wherever
- TaskTracker is installed. Snapshot.log is ready to send after
- restarting TaskTracker and allowing it to load. TaskTracker.log may
- not appear right away and might take some time to record useful
- information - so let it run awhile, at least until you are able to
- duplicate whatever problem you're experiencing.
- 4. Add the log files as an attachment to your mail.
