  1. Setup Instructions for Microsoft(r) Word Viewer for Windows(r) 95,
  2. Version 7.1

  4. System Requirements for the use of Microsoft Word Viewer 7.1
  5.  -  A personal computer with a 386DX or higher processor
  6.  -  Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Microsoft Windows NT(tm)
  7.     Workstation operating system 3.51 or later
  8.  -  4 MB of memory for Windows 95 (8 MB recommended)
  9.     12 MB of memory for Windows NT Workstation
  10.  -  4 MB of hard disk space (6MB free for installation only)
  11.  -  VGA or higher-resolution video adapter
  12.  -  Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  13.  
  14. Installation of Word Viewer 7.1 is designed to take place from within Microsoft
  15. Windows. If Windows is not running, please start it before continuing.
  16.  
  17. Make sure that all programs are closed, and make sure you are not running any
  18. utilities or virus protection before proceeding.
  19.  
  20. To install Word Viewer, please follow these instructions:
  21.  
  22. 1.  Your starting point for Word Viewer 7.1 installation depends upon whether
  23.     you downloaded the WD95VW71.EXE file from an online service, or received
  24.     Viewer on diskettes.
  25.  
  26.     - If you downloaded Viewer, double click WD95VW71.EXE in the folder you
  27.       copied this file to. It will unpack the Word Viewer 7.1 distribution and
  28.       start the Word Viewer 7.1 Setup program.
  29.       Note: this starting location cannot be the folder into which you plan to
  30.       install Viewer.

  32.     - If you received Viewer on diskettes check disk1 for one of the following
  33.       filenames, and continue as directed for that filename:
  34.  
  35.       ONLINE71.INF: Copy all the files from the diskettes into a single folder
  36.       on your hard drive. Double click Setup.exe in this folder.
  37.       Note: this starting location cannot be the folder into which you plan to
  38.       install Viewer.
  39.  
  40.       FLOPPY71.INF: Double click Setup.exe on disk1.
  41.  
  42. 2.  Word Viewer 7.1 Setup will prompt you for a folder in which to install
  43.     Word Viewer. The default folder location for Word Viewer is:
  44.  
  45.     C:\PROGRAM FILES\WORDVIEW (C:\WordView on Windows NT 3.51).

  47. 3.  Click the "Installation" button to install Word Viewer 7.1.
  48.  
  49. 4.  If Word Viewer Setup detects Word for Windows (version 6.0 or later)
  50.     on your system, it will prompt you to determine which application
  51.     should open Word documents by default. The 'default' application is used to
  52.     open files with *.DOC file extensions when they are double-clicked in the
  53.     Windows 95 shell.
  54.  
  55.     - Choosing "Open with Word" means that Word for Windows will be used
  56.       by default to open Word files.
  57.  
  58.     - Choosing "Open with Viewer" means that Word Viewer will be used by
  59.       default to open Word files.
  60.  
  61. NOTE: If you choose the "Open with Viewer" option, you MUST run the Word for
  62. Windows Setup program if you want to restore Word for Windows as the default
  63. viewer of Word documents, or if you remove Viewer from your computer. For more
  64. information see "Restoring Word's Settings" in the Word Viewer 7.1 Readme.doc

  87. 6.  To run Word Viewer 7.1 in Windows 95, click the Start button on the 
  88.     Windows 95 Taskbar and then point to Programs and choose Microsoft Word 
  89.     Viewer. Alternatively, you can run Word Viewer by double-clicking on the
  90.     WORDVIEW.EXE file in your \PROGRAM FILES \WORDVIEW folder. In Windows NT,
  91.     double click on the Word Viewer icon in the Program Manager.

  93. After Word Viewer 7.1 Setup is complete, WD95VW71.EXE deletes the files used for
  94. Setup. If you plan to distribute Word Viewer 7.1, either online or on floppy
  95. disks, you will need W95VW71.EXE or the files it unpacks. See " Distribution of
  96. Word Viewer" in the Word Viewer 7.1 Readme.doc for more information.

  98. For additional information on using Word Viewer 7.1, see Readme.doc, located
  99. in the same directory as Word Viewer. To view this file, run Word Viewer 7.1,
  100. click Readme.doc in the "Open" dialog box, and click OK. If The "Open" dialog is
  101. not pointing to your WORDVIEW folder when you start Viewer, change to that
  102. folder and open Readme.doc.
