Windows Shopper
---------------
Windows Shopper is a home shopping utility that allows you to create and maintain
a database of items you purchase, the stores from which you purchase them, and the
prices you pay. From this database you can print Master and Store Shopping Lists
and Item and Store Price Comparisons.
Windows Shopper is a full-featured Windows shareware application which requires:
- Microsoft Windows 3.1 in Standard or Enhanced mode.
- EGA or higher
- Mouse
- Approximately .78 mb of hard disk space
Upon registration ($15 + $3 S/H), you will receive:
- a disk with the current version of the program
- a printed manual
To install Windows Shopper from a diskette in Drive A:
1. From the Windows Program Manager, choose "Run" from the File menu.
2. Enter "a:\setup" as the command line and choose OK.
If you are installing Windows Shopper from a hard disk directory, substitute the
directory drive and pathname for "a:" in the command above.
Should you desire to de-install (oh no!) Windows Shopper, perform the following:
1. Remove the Windows Shopper icon from its group: select it and press
the DEL key.
2. Remove the Windows Shopper program group: after all program icons
have been removed from the group, select it and press the DEL key.
3. Use File Manager to delete the directory (normally C:\SHOPPER)
containing the Windows Shopper files.
4. If you chose to install them in your Windows system directory and
no other applications on your system require them, remove the
libraries installed with Windows Shopper:
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VBRUN200.DLL
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COMMDLG.DLL
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\THREED.VBX
Release Notes
-------------
V1.1
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Deleting a price sometimes left incorrect rankings among the remaining
prices.
2. Display of lists sometimes failed (due to improper VScroll property
initialization).
3. Store selection for Store Shopping List display displayed asterisks (*)
to indicate the stores configured to be included on the Store Shopping
Lists; the asterisks weren't supposed to be there when selecting the
single store to include on the Store Shopping List display.
New Features:
1. An item may now be marked as "preferred to be bought" at a given store,
even if it's price at that store is not the best (cheapest) one.
2. An option has been added to Store Shopping Lists to disable sorting of
items on the lists by aisle number within the store. This is helpful
when your favorite merchant decides to rearrange the whole store and
it's necessary to find the right aisle numbers again.
3. An option has been added to the Edit Menu (a corresponding Speed Button
has also been provided) to search the list of items for a matching
string.
4. The installation program now allows you to optionally install the DLL's
in the Windows system directory (the default is in the same directory
that you specify for Windows Shopper itself), thereby simplifying
de-installation.
V1.11
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Modified data table sizes (changed via Edit Configuration) were not being
written to the new configuration file.
2. The "Sort by Aisle" selection for Store Shopping Lists didn't always
work correctly when the program was first loaded.
3. The cursor for the main form remained an hourglass after a printer
setup error instead of being returned to the normal (arrow) shape.
New Features:
1. When the program is initiated, the main screen now appears before
loading of the data file takes place.
2. Data table operations have been made more efficient.
V1.12
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Eliminated "Overflow" error message when attempting to prepare Miscellaneous
Items Store Shopping List for screen display.
V1.20
-----
New Features:
1. Built using Visual Basic v2.0, resulting in a smaller .EXE file and faster
execution.
2. Added "hot spot" graphics to SHOPPER.HLP.
V1.21
-----
New Features:
1. Added the ability to control the text (foreground) color of forms and controls
whose backgrouond color can be midified via the Configuration screen.
V1.22
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Prevented multiple print CANCEL attempts from creating multiple events.
V1.23
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Editing of Stores and Units didn't result in a sorted list. This sometimes
resulted in a later run-time error indicating that a subscript array was out
of range.
V1.24
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. While not technically a bug, the main screen is now forced to the front of
your display after loading a file has been completed. Some users complained
that the program "disappeared" behind the Program Manager window when loading
a file had been completed.
2. Under some circumstances, deleting all stores and/or units left controls
enabled which should have been disabled.
V1.25
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Changes to data table sizes via the Configuration screen were not being honored.
V1.26
-----
New Features:
1. The Cancel Printing option now causes the Print Manager or printer driver to
abandon unprinted text, not just cease generating additional text.
Bugs Fixed:
1. The Cancel Printing option, once activated, remained activated unless cancelled.
V1.27
-----
Bugs Fixed:
1. Deleting a store didn't delete item prices (they would be discarded the next
time a data file was loaded).
V2.00
-----
New Features:
1. Data files are now stored in binary (rather than text) form, significantly
speeding up the file load process.
