  6. FM/2 is a shareware OS/2 2.1+ PM 32-bit file/directory/archive
  7. maintenance utility (a sort of super-Drives object) with plenty of bells
  8. and whistles, drag and drop and context menus.
  9.

  11. FM/2 2.02 installation instructions:
  12. ===================================

  14.   1.  Unpack the FM2_202 archive in a private directory.  FM/2 2.x
  15.       requires its own home directory (FAT or HPFS, doesn't matter). I
  16.       recommend that it _not_ be your old FM/2 1.x directory (and don't
  17.       delete the old 1.x version until after you install, so the install
  18.       program can migrate some of your old settings and registration
  19.       first).  If upgrading from 2.x, just unpack the files in the FM/2
  20.       2.x directory and go (you might want to skip ARCHIVER.BB2 and
  21.       FM3TOOLS.DAT if you've customized them).
  22.  
  23.   2.  Run INSTALL.CMD in that directory to build a folder and program
  24.       objects and migrate some old INI information.  Rerun INSTALL.CMD
  25.       if you later move the FM/2 directory.  (If you later decide to
  26.       remove FM/2, run UNINSTAL.CMD in the FM/2 2.x directory and follow
  27.       simple directions.  Both installation and deinstallation are
  28.       no-brainers.  UNINSTAL will help you quickly remove all traces of
  29.       FM/2.  All OS/2 programs should be so nice.)

  31.   3.  Run it.  Have fun.  Full help is available from within the
  32.       program.  If you're unfamiliar with OS/2's WPS, please take the
  33.       time to run the OS/2 Tutorial before attempting to use FM/2.

  36. Miscellaneous notes:

  39. File Manager/2 (filename FM3.EXE) optionally accepts names of
  40. directories on the command line; it'll open a directory window for each
  41. one.  You can exclude drives by prefacing the drive letter with "/", and
  42. there can be more than one drive letter behind the "/" (i.e. "FM3.EXE
  43. /BH" to exclude drives B: and H:).  Please read the following sections
  44. in the online help when you start FM/2 for the first time:  "How to use
  45. FM/2's Help," "Terminology" and "General Help," then "Hints."  The rest
  46. you can browse as you get time/feel the need.

  48. You may want to either move ARCHIVER.BB2 (the data file containing
  49. information about archiver programs and archive files) to a directory in
  50. your PATH= statement or erase this one if you've customized an old one.
  51. FM/2 can still find and use ARCHIVER.BB2 on the PATH; it doesn't have to
  52. be in FM/2's directory.

  54. You'll note the extra objects that the Install program creates in the
  55. File Manager/2 folder.  FM/2 is modular, so that you can get directly to
  56. some of its components without running the entire ball of wax.  This may
  57. allow you to enhance the behavior of some of your other applications in
  58. the WPS tradition.  You don't _have_ to keep these around -- FM/2 itself
  59. contains all their functionality.

  61.   Archive Viewer/2:   Intended for drag-and-drop operation (or WPS
  62.                       association) with WPS objects or other
  63.                       applications.  Drag an archive onto it, drop it,
  64.                       get an archive listing box.  Filename AV2.EXE.
  65.  
  66.   SysIcon:            Intended to let you change a system pointer by
  67.                       dragging an icon/pointer file (*.ICO or *.PTR)
  68.                       onto it, then picking the pointer to replace. You
  69.                       can reset a pointer by using NUL for an argument.
  70.                       Filename DOICON.EXE.

  72.   EA Viewer:          Drag a file system object onto it and it'll show
  73.                       you the object's extended attributes.  Filename
  74.                       EAS.EXE.
  75.  
  76.   INI Viewer:         Drag an INI file onto it and it'll show you its
  77.                       contents.  Filename INI.EXE.
  78.  
  79.   Process Killer:     Lets you kill off renegade processes.  An English
  80.                       version of PSTAT.EXE must be on your PATH.
  81.                       Filename KILLPROC.EXE.

  83.   Undeleter:          Lets you undelete files (via interface with
  84.                       UNDELETE.COM).  Drag a file system object onto it
  85.                       and it'll let you undelete files for that drive.
  86.                       Filename UNDEL.EXE.

  88.   Visual Tree:        Opens a drive tree window (like the WPS drives
  89.                       object with more horsepower).  Filename VTREE.EXE.

  91.   Visual Directory:   Opens a directory container window; drag a file
  92.                       system object onto it and this will open its
  93.                       directory (like a WPS directory folder with more
  94.                       horsepower).  Filename VDIR.EXE.

  96.   Collector:          Opens a Collector window.  Filename VCOLLECT.EXE.

  99. I've included a couple of .CMD files for command line freaks.  If you
  100. find them useful you'll probably want to put them in a directory on your
  101. PATH.  Although FM/2 and the WPS support .SUBJECT EAs (descriptions of
  102. files and directories), not much else does.  This should provide you
  103. with the tools you need to take better advantage of .SUBJECTs:

  105.   CVT4OS2.CMD:        Converts 4OS2/4DOS DESCRIPT.ION files to .SUBJECT
  106.                       EAs.  See comments in file.
  107.  
  108.   CVTFBBS.CMD:        Converts FILES.BBS files to .SUBJECT EAs.  See
  109.                       comments in file.

  111.   SUBJ.CMD:           Allows entry of a .SUBJECT EA from the command line.
  112.                       Run without arguments for help.

  114.   SDIR.CMD:           A DIR-like command that displays .SUBJECT EAs.  Run
  115.                       SDIR /? for help.

  117. FM/2's install creates an FM2.CMD file for you.  You can copy this file
  118. to a directory listed on your PATH (see PATH= in CONFIG.SYS) and use it
  119. to run FM/2 from any OS/2 command line, if desired.  A quick copy and
  120. text editor modification will let you build similar command files for
  121. the utility .EXEs, too -- AV/2 in particular might benefit from this.

  124. FM/2 isn't free, it's shareware:

  127. To register FM/2, fill out REGISTER.TXT and send to the mailing address
  128. listed in it, together with the purchase price (commercial users,
  129. there's a 5% discount for each ten commercial licenses, up to fifty
  130. licenses, where the price flattens).  Registration gets rid of the
  131. initial about box, and also the closing screen that pops up after you've
  132. used FM/2 a few times.

  138. You are granted a license to try this shareware program for up to thirty
  139. (30) days, after which you must register or discontinue its use.
  140. Permission is granted to redistribute the unaltered shareware archive
