  4. Since I wrote my A1200 beginners guides I have often been asked for help
  5. from new Amiga owners who are frustrated with the bad Amiga manuals and lack
  6. of free technical support from elsewhere. I have always helped these people
  7. when I could and I enjoy the buzz I get from solving peoples problems.
  8.  
  9. But MY problem is I am trying to run a business here and I only have a 
  10. limited amount of time to deal with non-paying customers requests. 
  11. I want to continue helping beginners but it must have some return for me 
  12. and the business, time is money and all that.
  13.  
  14. But:
  15. I do not want to start a club or scheme where you pay membership.
  16. I do not want to charge a fixed rate.
  17. I do not want to price people out of getting help.
  18.  
  19. But I need to charge something.
  20.  
  21. This is what I have come up with. I hope this is a fair scheme that anyone
  22. can use without the worry of money.

  29.   or two that will help you with your problem or just some general tools
  30.   that everyone should have and of course your reply will be on the
  31.   disk in ASCII.

  45. * Tell me your exact setup i.e. A1200, 2meg, 120meg hard drive, monitor

  50. I will do my best to answer your questions. I wil return your disk, with
  51. programs on it and an ASCII reply on your disk. 
  52. Usually this will take 1-3 days. But be prepared for a max of 1 week.

  56. If you are happy with the answers I would like you to make a Shareware type
  57. donation. If you are not happy with my help, don't send a donation and of
  58. course don't ask for any more help!

  76. P.C CD-Rom cover disks off of PC magazines, I love em.

  78. Buy 1 or more of my A1200 guides.

  80. Just send something from the above that you feel you can afford and what you
  81. feel my service to you is worth. Most people will have one of the above
  82. lying around the house unwanted and unloved :-)
  83. If you are skint just do what you can, I understand. Any liberty takers will
  84. only be able to use this service once.

  90. A1000, A2000. A3000 and A500/+ users I have forgotten what it is like to use
  91. these machines so my help my be a bit limited. A600/A1200 is my preffered
  92. choice now days. I have never owned an A4000 (sob) but it uses the same
  93. Workbench as an A1200. I have also never used Workbench 3.1, can't see the
  94. point in upgrading for the price asked when it has little new to offer.

  101. Quick explanation of ASCII and how to send me a letter on disk,
  102. which I prefer.
  103.  
  104. ASCII, is a text standard that will work with most software on any computer. 
  105. It stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange.
  106.  
  107. Most Word Processors, Desktop Publishers, Text Editers support ASCII.
  108. If in doubt use 'ED' to type your letter.
  109.  
  110. This is how to use ED and save the ASCII file onto a disk to send to me:

  112. * Load Workbench
  113.  
  114. * Insert a disk into your internal drive either formatted or with some 
  115.   space on it. See last page of this cat disk on how to format a disk.
  116.  
  117. * Double click on the Shell icon (found inside the 'System' drawer on your
  118.   Workbench disk)
  119.  
  120. * Type in the following:
  121.   Ed F1letter
  122.  
  123.   And press return.
  124.  
  125. * Ed will now load. Just start typing your letter.
  126.  
  127. * When you have finished typing select 'SAVE AS' from the pull down menu
  128.  
  129. * Use the file requester to save the file to DF0: and send the disk to me.
