ocr: Halling-improbably enough-trom Virginia, Mad Skillzs album will no doubt raise comparisons with the always brilliant Pharcyde. But while both acts use multitextural melodies, and both hit a vibe at once bright, cool and breezy, Mad Skillz carefully avoids the goofy, self-deprecating flavor of his west coast counterparts.
