  2. Producing an Embossed Picture
  3.  
  4. Image contains all the necessary parts to allow it to produce an
  5. embossed picture - but currently the process is not automated.
  6.  
  7. Thus to produce an embossed picture follow the steps outlined below,
  8. it is best to start Image anew so that everything is set up correctly.
  9.

  11. 1) First load the picture you wish to emboss into Image.
  12.  
  13. 2) Bring up the Kernel Operation Control Window look through the list
  14. of operations for the one named 'Edges W NW N' and select it.
  15.  
  16. 3) Select the 'Run' icon to perform the operation.
  17.  
  18. 4) Now bring up the 'Image Bank Control Window'. Select the input bank
  19. to be bank 1, and the output bank to be bank 3.
  20.  
  21. 5) Back at the Kernel Operation Control Window select the operation
  22. called 'Edges E SE S' and then 'Run' that operation.
  23.  
  24. 6) Back at the 'Image Bank Control Window' set the options as follows :
  25.  
  26.     Input     to bank 2
  27.     Output    to bank 4
  28.     2nd Input to bank 3
  29.  
  30. 7) Now bring up the 'Merge Banks Control Window' and select the
  31. 'Emboss' operation.
  32.  
  33. 8) Now you need to decide on what background you want for the embossed
  34. picture. You can either have a plain background (eg. mid grey), or you
  35. can have another picture as the background. If you want a plain
  36. background follow steps marked with (A), for a picture background
  37. follow steps marked (B).

  39. 9)
  40. (A) Only
  41. Bring up the 'Colour Selection Window' and choose the colour you want
  42. as the background (if it is not already defined, create it (see
  43. 'Colour' for details)). Note the colour number (0 to 15) of the colour
  44. you require.

  46. (B) Only
  47. Bring up the 'Colour Selection Window' and choose a mid brightness
  48. colour (eg. mid grey, red, etc) and set that as the Mask colour
  49. (basically you want to avoid black or white masking).

  51. 10) (A) and (B)
  52. In the 'Merge Banks Control Window' locate the writable icon at the
  53. bottom of the window and enter "128,". Then follow that with :

  55.     (A) The colour number chosen in step 9.
  56.  
  57.     (B) The value "-1"
  58.  
  59. 11) Select the icon marked 'Merge'.

  62. If there is too much embossing (too much black and white) then perform
  63. an 'Undo' and repeat from step 10 with a higher value instead of the 128
  64. (you can go up to 255), if not enough embossing then use a lower value.

  66. When you are happy move onto stage 13 (B) only; (A) is finished.

  69. Return to the 'Image Bank Control Window' at set the options as
  70. follows :

  72.     Input     to bank 5
  73.     Output    to bank 6
  74.     2nd Input to bank 4

  76. 14) (B) only
  77. Load the picture you wish to use as the background.
  78.  
  79. 15) (B) only
  80. If the background picture is a different size than the picture you
  81. embossed you will need to resize it (see 'Resize' for details). You
  82. can find out the size you need to make it by looking at the 'Image
  83. Bank Control Window' (bank 4).

  86. On the 'Merge Banks Control Window' select the 'Over' option and
  87. press the icon marked 'Merge'. You have now completed the Emboss
  88. operation.
