  11. To install this Windows program on your computer (see Important
  12. Installation Note below *before* installing):
  13.  
  14.    1. Start Windows.
  15.  
  16.    2. Insert Disk 1 (of the three-disk set) in either Drive A: or Drive B:.
  17.  
  18.    3. Select File>>Run from the Program Manager main menu.  Type A:SETUP
  19.       or B:SETUP, depending on which drive contains the installation
  20.       diskette, then select <OK>.
  21.  
  22.       As an alternative, you may open the File Manager, select the drive
  23.       containing Disk 1 and launch the file SETUP.EXE by double-clicking
  24.       on the file name.

  26.    4. Follow the Setup instructions on the screen.  Answer each question,
  27.       then click the <Continue> button.

  29. Program requirements:  80386sx or greater, 2mb memory minimum (4mb or more
  30. recommended), 3.4mb available hard disk space; DOS 3.1 or greater,
  31. Windows(tm) v3.1 (or greater) running in Enhanced Mode.  640x480 VGA
  32. recommended.

  35. *IMPORTANT* INSTALLATION NOTE
  36. ------------------------------
  37. The DOS program SHARE.EXE should be loaded before using this program, even
  38. on single-user systems.  SHARE is needed to prevent simultaneous access to
  39. the primary database subsystem by an inadvertent launching of another
  40. instance of this program.  With the multitasking capabilities of Windows(tm)
  41. 3.1+ operating in Enhanced Mode, it is *possible* that a user could at some
  42. point during a Windows session attempt to launch a second instance of this
  43. program.  The user's data residing in this program's database subsystem
  44. would become irreparably corrupted.  SHARE is designed to prevent such an
  45. occurrence.  This program's SETUP will check for the presence of SHARE.EXE
  46. on the user's system; if not found, it will prompt the user for permission
  47. to automatically add it to the autoexec.bat file.  SETUP will also install
  48. a Microsoft-authorized copy of a late version of SHARE.EXE if it is found
  49. to be needed.  (The user may wish to edit the autoexec.bat to specify that
  50. SHARE be loaded high in order to save conventional memory.)  The existence
  51. of SHARE in memory should present no conflicts while using other DOS and
  52. Windows programs and ordinarily may be present at all times; a DOS manual
  53. may be consulted for details on the benefits of using SHARE.EXE.

  56. Update:
  57. As an alternative to running the DOS program SHARE.EXE at all times, Windows
  58. 3.1 users may instead use the Windows VSHARE.386 device driver, a copy of 
  59. which may be found on Installation Disk 1.  It must, however, be installed 
  60. and running *prior* to running this program's Setup or Setup will install a
  61. copy of SHARE.EXE (which is not needed if VSHARE.386 is used when running
  62. Windows 3.1 or greater).

  64. To use VSHARE.386 instead of SHARE.EXE, copy the file VSHARE.386 from 
  65. Installation Disk 1 over to your Windows System directory (for example, 
  66. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) and add the following line to your SYSTEM.INI file 
  67. (located in the Windows directory, usually C:\WINDOWS), under the section 
  68. labeled [386Enh], preferably as the first line:

  70.                            device=vshare.386
  71.  
  72. Save the change and *restart* Windows for the change to take effect.  You
  73. may then run this program's Setup as well as the program itself.

  75. If the user is utilizing the Windows for Workgroups(tm) system or a version
  76. of Windows greater than Windows 3.1, VSHARE.386 may already be running on
  77. the system.

  83. Please note that this program is not one that may be run from a File
  84. Manager by double-clicking on an executable file name.  The required
  85. command-line parameters will not be available to the program in this
  86. manner.  To run the program, click on the program's icon in Program Manager
  87. (or other shell).  If you wish to know (or record for archival purposes)
  88. the needed parameters, you may view the Properties option for the program
  89. item in the Program Manager.

  92. The original distribution from RCCO Research of this program was on three
  93. (3) high-density disks (1.2mb or 1.44mb) in compressed format.  If you
  94. downloaded this title from a BBS or information service, you must have
  95. all of the files that comprise those original disks.  You may install
  96. from diskettes or from a hard disk directory, but the setup program will
  97. not complete installation unless all of the components from the original
  98. distribution diskettes are available.
