- IMPORTANT KEYS:
- ---------------
-
- Pressing the "?" key in the game will bring up the Raptor Keyboard Help
- screen. This will show you most of the keys required to play the game.
- Additional keys include:
-
- The "SPACEBAR" fires the currently selected weapon.
-
- The "P" key lists the players involved in a multiplayer game. The first
- 32 names will be displayed on screen. Pressing the "UP ARROW" and "DOWN
- ARROW" keys will scroll through the list and show additional players.
- To scroll through the list quickly, use "CTRL" and "UP ARROW" or "CTRL"
- and "DOWN ARROW".
-
- Pressing "SHIFT T" in multiplayer allows you to send chat messages only
- to members in your squadron.
-
-
- GETTING OFF THE GROUND:
- -----------------------
-
- To get into the action quickly, do the following:
-
- The first thing to do at the beginning of the mission is press the
- "BACKSPACE" key. This will turn your engines on and set them to
- afterburner. Once you reach about 150kts, press the "DOWN ARROW" key or
- pull back on the joystick. The plane will liftoff. Immediately press
- the "G" key to raise your gear and flaps. This will transition the
- Raptor from landing mode to attack mode. Press the "0" key on the
- keyboard (not the keypad). This will reduce your thrust to 100% (Full
- Military Power). Once you're in the air, follow the waypoint caret (the
- green arrow tracking the HUD compass) to the action! If (and when) you
- die, press ENTER to reset back to the runway.
-
-
- VMAX:
- -----
-
- The structural limit of the F-22 airframe is based upon the pressure
- of air upon the frame of the aircraft. As you fly faster, pressure
- will increase. The structural limit, or "Q factor," is reached when
- the player exceeds 850 nautical miles per hour. A "VMAX" warning
- will appear on the heads-up display when a speed of 800 kts is
- reached.
-
- The "VMAX" warning gives the player an opportunity to reduce airspeed
- and avoid breaking up the aircraft. Once the F-22 has reached 850
- kts, the aircraft will be destroyed, resulting in a terminal velocity
- dive toward the ground.
-
-
-
- LANDING GEAR:
- -------------
-
- There is an option in the "Options" screen to enable or disable
- automatic landing gear retraction. If you enable this feature, the
- gear will automatically be raised when the F-22 reaches an airspeed
- of 250 kts. If you leave landing gear under manual control, your on-
- board computer will give you a "Check Gear" warning if you have not
- raised the gear when you reach a speed of 250 kts.
-
- Remember that the F-22 handles and operates differently with the
- landing gear down. Raising the gear tells the aircraft that it is
- now in "fighter mode".
-
-
- TIPS TO REMEMBER:
- -----------------
-
- Remember that your weapons will not fire and you will NOT get the
- missile distance box on the HUD unless your gear is up. If you are
- unable to shoot, check to be sure your gear has been raised.
-
- 360 degree radar is available in certain missions as a result of an
- AWACS operating in the area. If your AWACS is destroyed, you will
- lose your 360 degree radar. This will make missions more difficult.
-
-
- MAKING AN INTERNET CONNECTION:
- ------------------------------
-
- F-22 Raptor can be played multiplayer over the internet using
- Microsoft's DirectX5 or greater (see below). If you want to play a
- multiplayer game through NovaWorld, you must establish an internet
- connection on your computer. If you use a dial-up internet service, the
- dial-up connection window will appear when you attempt to JOIN an
- internet game. If it doesn't, your internet preferences may need to be
- changed. Open the INTERNET control panel and go to the CONNECTIONS page.
- The option "Connect to the Internet as needed" should be checked.
-
- If the connection box does not open automatically, you will need to
- make the connection before running the game. Open the "Dial-Up
- Networking" folder found in the Accessories Folder under Programs in
- the Start menu. Make the connection to your service provider. You
- can then run the game and play an internet game.
-
-
- DIRECTX 5:
- ----------
-
- Playing F-22 Raptor on NovaWorld requires DirectX 5.0 or greater to be
- installed on your machine. If you do not have DirectX 5.0, you can
- download it from Microsoft. The URL for the DirectX5 user area is:
-
- http://www.microsoft.com/directx/enduserguide.htm
-
-
- CONNECTING TO NOVAWORLD:
- ------------------------
-
- To play the demo version of F-22 Raptor multiplayer over the internet
- you will first need to log on to our Novaworld demo server. From
- the main menu, click on MULTIPLAYER. In the multiplayer menu, enter
- your pilot's name. Click on SEARCH. The name of the running games will
- be listed in the SESSIONS panel. Select the desired game and click on
- JOIN.
-
- In a R.A.W game you will find yourself on one of 2 teams, with the
- choice of being either a fighter or a bomber. Your objective is to
- destroy the opposing side's base. You will have a set limit of time to
- explore and enjoy a R.A.W experience.
-
- Deathmatch is a more traditional free for all. Takeoff and shoot down
- anyone else in the sky. You will also have set amount of time to enjoy
- the Deathmatch demo.
-
-
- MUSIC:
- ------
-
- F-22 Raptor defaults to playing music using DirectSound. You may
- experience an undesirable side effect when using certain sound cards
- (notably some SoundBlaster AWE 32 and 64 cards). If you find that
- changing the volume of the music also changes the volume of the sound
- effects, you can either turn music off in the Options section of the
- game or you can configure the game not to play music using
- DirectSound.
-
- To change the game to not use DirectSound, exit the Raptor game and
- use any text editor to edit the file "RAPTOR.CFG" which is in the
- installed game directory on your hard drive. Find the line in this
- text file which reads:
-
- DIRECTSOUND = 1
-
- Change the number 1 on this line to a 0 (zero) and re-save the file.
- Now when you start Raptor, all music will be played through Windows
- default drivers.
-
- If you experience any problems with music while playing a mission,
- you can turn the music off by pressing "T" to bring up the chat box
- and entering:
-
- midi off
-
- and pressing ENTER. You must type "midi off" in all lower case in
- order for it to work.
-
-
- JOYSTICK HATSWITCH ISSUE:
- -------------------------
-
- If you are playing the game using a joystick which has a hatswitch,
- you may experience some problems with the hatswitch switching views
- when you have not pressed it. You can solve this problem by making a
- change to the joystick configuration in the Windows 95 control panel.
-
- Bring up the Game Controllers control panel, select the joystick and
- click on the ADVANCED window pane. Near the bottom of the window is
- a checkbox for 'Poll with interrupts enabled'. Turn this checkbox
- OFF. Your hatswitch should now work more reliably.
-
-
