  25. IMPORTANT KEYS:

  28. Pressing the "?" key in the game will bring up the Raptor Keyboard Help
  29. screen.  This will show you most of the keys required to play the game.
  30. Additional keys include:
  31.  
  32. The "SPACEBAR" fires the currently selected weapon.
  33.  
  34. The "P" key lists the players involved in a multiplayer game.  The first
  35. 32 names will be displayed on screen.  Pressing the "UP ARROW" and "DOWN
  36. ARROW" keys will scroll through the list and show additional players.  
  37. To scroll through the list quickly, use "CTRL" and "UP ARROW" or "CTRL" 
  38. and "DOWN ARROW". 
  39.  
  40. Pressing "SHIFT T" in multiplayer allows you to send chat messages only 
  41. to members in your squadron.

  44. GETTING OFF THE GROUND:
  45. -----------------------
  46.  
  47. To get into the action quickly, do the following:
  48.  
  49. The first thing to do at the beginning of the mission is press the 
  50. "BACKSPACE" key.  This will turn your engines on and set them to 
  51. afterburner.  Once you reach about 150kts, press the "DOWN ARROW" key or 
  52. pull back on the joystick.  The plane will liftoff.  Immediately press 
  53. the "G" key to raise your gear and flaps.  This will transition the 
  54. Raptor from landing mode to attack mode.  Press the "0" key on the 
  55. keyboard (not the keypad).  This will reduce your thrust to 100% (Full 
  56. Military Power).  Once you're in the air, follow the waypoint caret (the 
  57. green arrow tracking the HUD compass) to the action!  If (and when) you
  58. die, press ENTER to reset back to the runway.

  61. VMAX:
  62. -----
  63.  
  64. The structural limit of the F-22 airframe is based upon the pressure 
  65. of air upon the frame of the aircraft.  As you fly faster, pressure 
  66. will increase.  The structural limit, or "Q factor," is reached when 
  67. the player exceeds 850 nautical miles per hour.  A "VMAX" warning 
  68. will appear on the heads-up display when a speed of 800 kts is 
  69. reached.

  71. The "VMAX" warning gives the player an opportunity to reduce airspeed 
  72. and avoid breaking up the aircraft.  Once the F-22 has reached 850 
  73. kts, the aircraft will be destroyed, resulting in a terminal velocity 
  74. dive toward the ground.

  78. LANDING GEAR:
  79. -------------

  81. There is an option in the "Options" screen to enable or disable 
  82. automatic landing gear retraction.  If you enable this feature, the 
  83. gear will automatically be raised when the F-22 reaches an airspeed 
  84. of 250 kts.  If you leave landing gear under manual control, your on-
  85. board computer will give you a "Check Gear" warning if you have not 
  86. raised the gear when you reach a speed of 250 kts.

  88. Remember that the F-22 handles and operates differently with the 
  89. landing gear down.  Raising the gear tells the aircraft that it is 
  90. now in "fighter mode".

  93. TIPS TO REMEMBER:
  94. -----------------

  96. Remember that your weapons will not fire and you will NOT get the 
  97. missile distance box on the HUD unless your gear is up.  If you are 
  98. unable to shoot, check to be sure your gear has been raised.
  99.  
  100. 360 degree radar is available in certain missions as a result of an 
  101. AWACS operating in the area.  If your AWACS is destroyed, you will 
  102. lose your 360 degree radar.  This will make missions more difficult.

  105. MAKING AN INTERNET CONNECTION:
  106. ------------------------------

  108. F-22 Raptor can be played multiplayer over the internet using 
  109. Microsoft's DirectX5 or greater (see below).  If you want to play a 
  110. multiplayer game through NovaWorld, you must establish an internet 
  111. connection on your computer.  If you use a dial-up internet service, the 
  112. dial-up connection window will appear when you attempt to JOIN an 
  113. internet game.  If it doesn't, your internet preferences may need to be 
  114. changed. Open the INTERNET control panel and go to the CONNECTIONS page.
  115. The option "Connect to the Internet as needed" should be checked.
  116.  
  117. If the connection box does not open automatically, you will need to 
  118. make the connection before running the game. Open the "Dial-Up 
  119. Networking" folder found in the Accessories Folder under Programs in 
  120. the Start menu.  Make the connection to your service provider.  You 
  121. can then run the game and play an internet game.

  124. DIRECTX 5:
  125. ----------
  126.  
  127. Playing F-22 Raptor on NovaWorld requires DirectX 5.0 or greater to be 
  128. installed on your machine. If you do not have DirectX 5.0, you can 
  129. download it from Microsoft.  The URL for the DirectX5 user area is:

  134. CONNECTING TO NOVAWORLD:
  135. ------------------------
  136.  
  137. To play the demo version of F-22 Raptor multiplayer over the internet
  138. you will first need to log on to our Novaworld demo server.  From 
  139. the main menu, click on MULTIPLAYER.  In the multiplayer menu, enter
  140. your pilot's name.  Click on SEARCH.  The name of the running games will 
  141. be listed in the SESSIONS panel.  Select the desired game and click on 
  142. JOIN.
  143.  
  144. In a R.A.W game you will find yourself on one of 2 teams, with the 
  145. choice of being either a fighter or a bomber.  Your objective is to 
  146. destroy the opposing side's base.  You will have a set limit of time to 
  147. explore and enjoy a R.A.W experience.
  148.  
  149. Deathmatch is a more traditional free for all.  Takeoff and shoot down
  150. anyone else in the sky.  You will also have set amount of time to enjoy 
  151. the Deathmatch demo.
  152.

  154. MUSIC:
  155. ------
  156.  
  157. F-22 Raptor defaults to playing music using DirectSound.  You may 
  158. experience an undesirable side effect when using certain sound cards 
  159. (notably some SoundBlaster AWE 32 and 64 cards).  If you find that 
  160. changing the volume of the music also changes the volume of the sound 
  161. effects, you can either turn music off in the Options section of the 
  162. game or you can configure the game not to play music using 
  163. DirectSound.
  164.  
  165. To change the game to not use DirectSound, exit the Raptor game and 
  166. use any text editor to edit the file "RAPTOR.CFG" which is in the 
  167. installed game directory on your hard drive.  Find the line in this 
  168. text file which reads:

  170. DIRECTSOUND = 1
  171.  
  172. Change the number 1 on this line to a 0 (zero) and re-save the file.  
  173. Now when you start Raptor, all music will be played through Windows 
  174. default drivers.
  175.  
  176. If you experience any problems with music while playing a mission, 
  177. you can turn the music off by pressing "T" to bring up the chat box 
  178. and entering:
  179.  
  180. midi off
  181.  
  182. and pressing ENTER.  You must type "midi off" in all lower case in 
  183. order for it to work.
  184.

  186. JOYSTICK HATSWITCH ISSUE:
  187. -------------------------
  188.  
  189. If you are playing the game using a joystick which has a hatswitch, 
  190. you may experience some problems with the hatswitch switching views 
  191. when you have not pressed it.  You can solve this problem by making a 
  192. change to the joystick configuration in the Windows 95 control panel.
  193.  
  194. Bring up the Game Controllers control panel, select the joystick and 
  195. click on the ADVANCED window pane.  Near the bottom of the window is 
  196. a checkbox for 'Poll with interrupts enabled'.  Turn this checkbox 
  197. OFF.  Your hatswitch should now work more reliably.

  200. RAPTOR INFO BUTTON:

  203. The main F-22 Raptor menu has an information button to automatically 
  204. launch the installed browser and connect to an information page.  If 
  205. your browser doesn't automatically launch, you can access the page
