- Sokoban Level Editor 3.5 (a HyperCard/Player Document)
- --------------------------------------------------------
- MacSokoban Level Editor lets you design your own levels and
- edit existing levels of Sokoban 3D, MacSokoban, a Mac-
- Sokoban module or Windows Sokoban.INI. Its interface
- is like any paint software you use.
- You can save your work as TEXT file or export it directly
- into Sokoban 3D sets or a MacSokoban module; if you have PC
- Windows Sokoban, you can import or export single levels as
- a text and copy it into SOKOBAN.INI.
-
- What's New?
- Thanks to some hints of Graham Herrick, it's now possible
- to create set files for his Sokoban 3D game (you can get it
- at <http://www.stratos.net/shareware/>) and modules
- for MacSokoban. Balloon help does no more flicker (because
- of using mouseEnter instead of mouseWithin), and the
- column counter shows adequate column numbering.
-
- Some functions:
- Turn the level by 90 degrees, reverse the level upside down
- and left to right, test the level for the same number of
- gold bags and destinations, add bags or the man to
- destinations, fill an area, insert column, cut column,
- erase signs, kill a level (resource), create a set file for
- Sokoban 3D or a module file for MacSokoban, balloon help
- and so on.
-
- PC Windows Sokoban:
- If you have PC Windows Sokoban, you can import or export
- single levels for SOKOBAN.INI (divide the file into single
- levels in order to import them to the level editor; copy
- ready made exported levels with an ASCII text editor into
- the .INI file for Windows Sokoban).
- Carefully follow the directions in the file header.
-
- Requirements:
- You'll need Hypercard 2.0 or above. A 13" monitor is recommended.
- Some XCMDs need system 7.
-
- History:
- Version 3.4:
- Levels for the fascinating 3D version of Sokoban of Graham
- Herrick (gherrick@stratos.net) can now be handled with the
- Sokoban Level Editor V3.4 (thanks to a change made by
- Graham who released a version 1.0.1 of his game).
- All XCMDs and XFCNs have been updated (Rinaldi's
- X-Archive version 4.0).
- Sorting of levels is faster due to an XFCN for sorting
- instead of a bubblesort written in HyperTalk.
-
- Version 3.3.1 got fixed a bug appearing with HyperCard
- 2.3.5 ('the name of this stack' is no more the same as 'the
- short name of this stack' - obvious, but it worked before).
-
- Since version 3.3 you can increase and decrease the font
- size of the level and work inside the level in direct text
- processing mode in order to work with larger levels. Reduce
- the extensions of the level to a normal size, if you want
- to import it into Sokoban. You also can inspect any level
- file.
- The level size was increased for MacSokoban 3.0 to 20x29
- signs. A bigger size can be edited using a smaller
- font/sign size.
- Some quite slow operations have been tuned for speed.
- Balloon help was implemented by a balloon XCMD.
-
- In version 3.2 there is a transparency of levels in any of
- the files (Sokoban itselves, an Extra file or the level
- editor). Whether you want to export, import or to delete a
- level, you will get a list of the existing levels in the
- relevant file.
- Version 3.2 has a bug in the filename treating for Extra
- files and the Sokoban application. Use a newer version
- instead!
-
- Since version 3.1 exists a larger field limit of 24 x 18
- signs; a normal level is about 12 to 18 signs, although
- MacSokoban works not bad with 18 x 30 signs.
- The PC Windows version of Sokoban only has 17 x 19.
- Limit yourself to the dimensions of your Sokoban
- version.
-
- Version 3.1 has not been published.
-
- Since version 3.0, there exists the possibility to put a
- level directly into MacSokoban (thanx to the XCMD TEXTRES
- 1.4 from Rinaldis Xarchive) or an EXTRA file.
-
- Version 2.0 was an editor with import and export
- possibilities in TEXT mode only. The user interface was
- adapted to the Apple standards.
-
- Version 1.0 was an alpha release with a non-standard user
- interface.
-
- Thanks:
- First of all, thanks to Ingemar Ragnemalm, the programmer of
- MacSokoban (most recent version: 3.0.2 - hopefully, a next
- version will have bigger levels, with scrolling, I imagine).
- With greetings to Don Hewitt, the creator of Bolo Map Editor
- and a lot of people writing XCMDs and XFCNs, for example
- Steve Drazga, Frederic Rinaldi and Len Saaf.

- P.S. This is smileware. If you like it: Remember to smile.
- Bug reports will be accepted (if necessary ...).

- Announcement
- Since James Burton in 1995 wrote Stardust 1.1 (another quite
- clever strategy game) and asked for an editor, I am writing one
- in the style of the the Sokoban Level Editor in my spare time
- (is there any?) - (his levels are stored as TEXT, of course).
- BTW Did you know, that Software companies, in order to
- save lots of money, started only to announce their
- software? ... Fortunately, I'm not a software company.
