  4. What!? Incredible!  Yet Another Newton hack from Bill Kearney.

  8. I've always wanted to do this one, but never quite got around to it.  Well, here it is!
  9.  
  10. This app is a Formula template.  That is, it installs itself in the Newton's Forumulas app list.  This is where you'll normally find the metric and currency converters and the loan calculators.  Now, you'll have an area code lookup database in there as well.

  12. Simply install nAreaCodes and tap the Formulas icon in the Extras drawer.  You should see an Area Code entry.  Tap it.

  14. There is one field for you to enter an area code.  Enter one and tap the Find button to the right of the entry field.  nAreaCodes will lookup that area code and display what area is covered by that code.  If you enter an invalid or unknown area code, it will display "Not found".

  16. Why did I write this?

  18. Well, I get a lot of calls and e-mail from folks and there's often a long-distance number in the message.  Before I go calling blindly at peak-billing rates, I want to check the area code.  If it's not some distant location like Toronto (Hi, George!), then I'll call.

  20. nAreaCodes will not affect any other operation of your Newton.   It does not currently provide lookup by name.  I could make it do this rather easily.  If enough folks request it when they pay the Shareware fee, I will add it.  Only registered users will receive that version.

This product is currently in beta test.  It's not known to have any bugs or defects that would impair the use of your Newton.  However, it is possible something unforseen could go wrong.  We cannot be held responsible for any loss of info or the usage of your Newton.  Please back up your Newton before installing this package!

For those of you who've read my other product ReadMe files, this may seem a bit tame.  I've been a rather vocal critic of user support for shareware.  I certainly don't envision making a mint off of these products, but it's nice to see folks put their dollars behind my efforts.  If you like products like nAreaCodes and want to see others of it's kind, you need to support the authors who create them.  So, please, send your fees today!  If not to me, at least to another author.

  70. This was a quick hack for my own personal use.  I've released it to the ShareWare system.  I retain all rights to it.  If you'd like to distribute it, you must get my e-mail permission first.
