  1. U.S. Constitution (Article VI)

  3. Article VI.
  4.  
  5.   Sect. 1.      All debts contracted and engagements entered into, before the
  6.              adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the
  7.              United States under this Constitution, as under the
  8.              Confederation.
  9.  
  10.   Sect. 2.      This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which
  11.              shall be made in pursuance thereof, and all treaties made, or
  12.              which shall be made, under the authority of  the United States,
  13.              shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in
  14.              every State shall be bound thereby, anything in the
  15.              constitution or laws of any State to the contrary
  16.              notwithstanding.
  17.  
  18.   Sect. 3.      The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the
  19.              members of the several State legislatures, and all executive and
  20.              judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several
  21.              States, shall be bound, by oath or affirmation, to support this
  22.              Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a
  23.              qualification to any office or public trust under the United
  24.              States.
