  1. GEOCLOCK 7.2 sunlight clock for Windows.  The
  2. current sun position is displayed, and the
  3. parts of the earth in sunlight and twilight
  4. are highlighted, with local sunrise/set and
  5. times around the world.  A DOS version
  6. (GEOCLK72.ZIP) is also available, and the
  7. two versions are functionally and graphicly
  8. similar.  Over 200 maps and a spinning
  9. globe program are available.
  10.  
  11. To install version 7.2 of GeoClock, unpack
  12. all the files in GCKWIN72 (and GEOXTR72 or
  13. GEOCLK71 if you have them) in a directory on
  14. your hard disk, and run GEOCKWIN and click 
  15. FILE/SETUP to customize the program for 
  16. your location and hardware.

  18. If you have a registered version of GeoClock and are
  19. updating to 7.2 (DOS or Windows), you can install the
  20. new programs over the old, or set up a new directory.
  21. In either case, you must run the REGISTER.EXE program
  22. from your original installation.

  24. ***** Trouble Shooting *****
  25.  
  26. Missing maps when installing update.  GeoClock updates must be
  27. installed to the same directory as the original registered copy
  28. of GeoClock for the update to incorporate all the original
  29. programs and maps.  Reinstall.
  30.  
  31. The sun is not in the right place or local times are not correct.
  32. This is usually caused by your PC's system clock not being set
  33. to the correct time (check AM/PM if you are not using a 24 hour
  34. clock), or by having a wrong or missing PCZONE command in the
  35. GECONFIG.DAT or GEOCLOCK.INI file.  Run the GeoSetup program or
  36. the FILE/SETUP menu item to set the correct time zone.

  38. Your home town is not displayed, or is in the wrong place, or
  39. your local time zone is not displayed.  Run the GeoSetup program
  40. or the SETUP menu item to provide the required information.  If
  41. your city is not listed in the setup, and your zip code covers
  42. a very large area, you might want to get your latitude and
  43. longitude from a good atlas, your local airport or weather
  44. station, or from the GeoClock BBS.
  45.  
  46. BuckMaster CDROM does not work with GeoClock.   Starting with the
  47. October 1995 release, BuckMaster has changed the format of the
  48. data files that GeoClock uses, and will not release the new
  49. format.  GeoClock does support the QRZ CDROM, which is much less
  50. expensive and more available than the BuckMaster disk, as well
  51. as the BuckMaster disks that contain the HAMCALL.129 file.
  52.  
  53. Out of Resources Messages (Windows only).   Some older video
  54. drivers in 65K or higher color modes have this problem.  You can
  55. solve the problem by adding the NOGLYPH command to GEOCLOCK.INI
  56. (use the NotePad editor if you cannot start GeoClock, or the
  57. FILE/GEOCLOCK.INI menu item if you can), or adding NOGLYPH to the
  58. GEOCKWIN.EXE command line.
  59.  
  60. Contrast is poor (Windows only).   Click FILE/SETUP and make sure
  61. the proper box is checked in the Video radio box.  In particular,
  62. if you have a black/grey/white monitor, be sure the Grey box is
  63. checked.  If you have a 16 color system, check the 16 color box.
  64.  
  65. Slow updates (Windows only).   Click CONTROLS/TIME CONTROLS and
  66. set the Foreground Update time to 0.01.  The Windows version of
  67. GeoClock is inherently much slower than the DOS version.  Also,
  68. the update time is more or less proportional to the screen area,
  69. so making the window smaller will increase the speed.

  71. The mouse does not function (DOS only).  The mouse will not
  72. function correctly on EGA systems, except in the distance (D) and
  73. old zoom (Z) functions.  If you have a VGA or better, make sure
  74. you did not specify EGA when you installed GeoClock.  Also, the
  75. DOS version requires a DOS device driver (usually called
  76. MOUSE.COM, MOUSE.EXE, or MOUSE.SYS) to be loaded in your
  77. AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file.  The mouse driver provided
  78. automatically with Windows will not work.  See section 1.5 of the
  79. on-line help system for more information.

  81. There is no GeoGlobe icon in GeoClock (DOS only).  The GeoGlobe
  82. icon appears while running GeoClock only if you have the optional
  83. GeoGlobe program installed in the same directory as GeoClock, and
  84. you are executing GEOCLK.COM (not GEOCLK.EXE).

  86. SVGA mode does not work correctly (DOS only).   If GeoSetup does
  87. not detect your SVGA, or does detect it but it does not run
  88. correctly, rerun GeoSetup specifying VGA rather than SVGA and
  89. then read section 1.4 of help.

  92. The only limitations on the shareware version are:
  93.  The system always starts with the help menu.
  94.  A limited number of maps are available.
  95.  The advanced forms of Zoom and Distance are not available.
  96.  Local time display next to cities on the map is not available.
