  5. Please take the time to review this file before installing and
  6. running WorldTime 2.1.

  9. VERSION 2.1D INTERIM RELEASE NOTE
  10. ---------------------------------
  11. Version 2.1d constitutes the fourth in a series of interim
  12. releases to WorldTime 2.1, implementing a number of minor
  13. refinements to existing program functions.
  14.  
  15. WorldTime 2.1d automatically places the current local time
  16. inside its program icon when the program window is minimized.
  17. This replaces the "Iconic Time Display" option which was
  18. available in earlier versions, but lead to conflicts with
  19. Windows screen savers.  The iconic time display is
  20. automatically without defeating any active Windows screen
  21. savers.
  22.  
  23. WorldTime Version 2.1d implements an adjustment to the local
  24. time zone listings that now provides separate GMT+12 and
  25. GMT-12 time zones.  If you have been using the shareware
  26. version of a WorldTime release prior to version 2.1d, and then
  27. install the registered version of WorldTime 2.1d, your local
  28. time zone selection may need to be reset.
  29.  
  30. You can check this simply by opening the "Configuration"
  31. dialog via the menu bar "Options/Configuration..."
  32. command.  If your correct local time zone does not appear
  33. in the drop-down listbox control, you should reset it to
  34. the correct time zone and then close the dialog box with the
  35. "OK" pushbutton.
  36.  
  37. Version 2.1d now offers the option of toggling the date
  38. display (in the status window) between MONTH/DAY/YEAR and
  39. DAY/MONTH/YEAR formats.  Controls for setting this selection
  40. are provided in the Configuration dialog box.
  41.  
  42. Finally, Version 2.1d now saves its most recent screen
  43. position (X and Y coordinates) into the WTIME21.INI file.
  44. Whenever WorldTime is run, the program window will position
  45. itself according to its previous screen location.
  46.  
  47. NOTE:  The current position is saved only when the program is
  48. closed while in its "maximized" or "restored" state.  The
  49. screen position is not saved if the program is closed from
  50. its iconic state.

  52. The first time the program is run, the WorldTime window may
  53. default to a centered position on your Windows desktop.

  56. INTRODUCTION
  57. ------------
  58. WorldTime 2.1 is an easy to use international clock utility
  59. for the Microsoft Windows operating environment.  WorldTime
  60. can display six different international locations and their
  61. current local times -- selected from a database of over 170
  62. metropolitan and geographic locations worldwide.

  65. NOTES FOR USERS OF PREVIOUS VERSIONS
  66. ------------------------------------
  67. If you are familiar with previous major-version releases of
  68. WorldTime, please take note of the following new features
  69. implemented in version 2.1:
  70.  
  71. WTIME21.INI Location
  72. --------------------
  73. Unlike previous releases, WorldTime 2.1 now creates and
  74. maintains its initialization file (WTIME21.INI) in the
  75. default Windows directory.  This change was implemented to
  76. make the program easier to use on local area network (LAN)
  77. systems.  Previous releases kept the .INI file in the
  78. WorldTime directory.
  79.  
  80. For the benefit of users who prefer keeping the WorldTime
  81. .INI file in the WorldTime default directory, the program
  82. can be run with the Private Mode command line switch (/P).
  83. This forces the program to create and access its
  84. initialization file in the WorldTime default directory
  85. (i.e., wherever the WTIME21.EXE file is located), and also
  86. allows multiple copies of WorldTime (stored in separate
  87. directories) to be run with their own configuration
  88. settings.

  90. Configuration Dialog
  91. --------------------
  92. All configuration settings are now managed from within a
  93. Configuration dialog, accessible via the menu bar
  94. "Options/Configuration..." command.

  96. Point-and-Shoot Mouse Support
  97. -----------------------------
  98. The international location selection dialogs can now be
  99. opened by placing the mouse pointer over the selected location
  100. display and double-clicking the left mouse button.  This
  101. feature duplicates the functions of the six buttonbar
  102. controls (which can now be disabled and removed from the
  103. program window -- see "Show/Hide ButtonBar").
  104.  
  105. Reduced Memory Overhead
  106. -----------------------
  107. Under normal operation, WorldTime 2.1 requires less installed
  108. memory than version 2.0.
  109.  
  110. Larger International Location Database
  111. --------------------------------------
  112. The number of standard locations accessible from WorldTime's
  113. International Location Selection dialog boxes has been
  114. increased, and includes generic time zone selections
  115. representing all standard time zones (labeled according to
  116. hours plus or minus Greenwich Mean Time).  This facility,
  117. coupled with the Custom Location Name feature, enables
  118. virtually any location to be entered and displayed in the
  119. WorldTime program window.

  121. Custom Location Names / Half-Hour Time Support
  122. ----------------------------------------------
  123. WorldTime 2.1 now allows the configuration and selection of
  124. custom locations based on WorldTime's default or standard time
  125. (STD) location listings.  Any custom location can also be
  126. configured as a "half-hour" time zone.

  128. Show/Hide ButtonBar
  129. -------------------
  130. The buttonbar controls can now be disabled and removed from
  131. the program window, useful if your international location
  132. fields are set and you wish to decrease the size of
  133. WorldTime's program window.  This toggle option is accessible
  134. via the menu bar "Options/Show/Hide ButtonBar" command.

  136. Window/Icon Topmost Display
  137. ---------------------------
  138. WorldTime can now keep its program window or icon "topmost"
  139. among any other active applications on the Windows desktop.
  140. This option is accessible from the Configuration dialog box.
  141.  
  142. 12-Hour/24-Hour Time Displays
  143. -----------------------------
  144. WorldTime can now be display all times in 12-hour or 24-hour
  145. format.  The user's selection of either option is then
  146. reflected not only in the main program window, but in the
  147. iconized time display and in the Set System Time dialog box.

  149. Adjustable Text Display Color
  150. -----------------------------
  151. The on-screen color of each of the six international location,
  152. day of week, and time fields can be selected from the
  153. International Location Selection dialog box (within the "Text
  154. Display Color" control group).

  157. PROGRAM FILES

  159. The WorldTime 2.1 package consists of 5 files:
  160.

  167. A sixth file, WTIME21.INI, is automatically created when the
  168. program is first run, and is located in the default Windows
  169. directory (e.g., C:\WINDOWS or C:\WIN).  This file contains
  170. all WorldTime configuration information.

  173. READ ALL ABOUT IT
  174. -----------------
  175. Full product documentation is contained in the WTIME21.TXT
  176. file.  This is an ASCII text file which can be easily loaded
  177. and viewed with Windows Notepad, Windows Write, or any word
  178. processor or text editor that supports the ASCII text format.
  179. This file includes a program description, instructions, and
  180. technical notes.
  181.  
  182. Specific information regarding the use of WorldTime 2.1 in a
  183. network environment is contained in the ASCII text file,
  184. NETWORK.TXT.  It is STRONGLY recommended that this file is
  185. read before installing WorldTime 2.1 on a local area network.

  187. Hypertext program documentation is supplied in the WTIME21.HLP
  188. file.  This is a Windows Help System format file, which can be
  189. loaded and viewed with Windows Help -- and is directly
  190. accessed from within WorldTime via the menu bar
  191. "Help/Contents..." command.

  193. Both of these files contain all the information you need to
  194. install and run this program.  The Windows Help System
  195. includes the provision for easily printing any topic or topics
  196. from the WTIME21.HLP file.  This handy feature can be used to
  197. turn your "manual on disk" into hard copy for future
  198. reference.

  201. QUICK & DIRTY START-UP
  202. ----------------------
  203. We recommend that you make a backup copy of the master program
  204. disk(s) before installing or running WorldTime.  We also
  205. recommend that this program be installed to, and run from, a
  206. hard disk.
  207.  
  208. To get WorldTime loaded and running with a minimum of fuss,
  209. simply create a new directory or subdirectory on your hard
  210. disk (e.g., C:\WTIME21) and copy the entire contents of your
  211. master disk to that new directory.
  212.  
  213. WorldTime 2.1 does not access or require any files from
  214. previous versions.  As a result, you may safely delete all
  215. installed files from any previous version of WorldTime prior
  216. to installing WorldTime 2.1.
  217.  
  218. From Microsoft Windows, you can run this program from File
  219. Manager by "double-clicking" the WTIME21.EXE file entry or by
  220. selecting the WTIME21.EXE file entry and issuing the menu bar
  221. "File/Run" command.
  222.  
  223. Of course, WorldTime's icon can be easily installed into a new
  224. or existing Program Manager group for quick, one-step running.
  225.  
  226. Once running, all configuration controls are accessed from the
  227. WorldTime menu bar and/or buttonbar controls.  A complete
  228. summary of all commands is provided in the WTIME21.TXT file
  229. and within the WorldTime help system.

  234. Warranty information regarding this product is provided in the
  235. ASCII text file, WTIME21.TXT and in the Windows Help file
  236. WTIME21.HLP.

  239. PRODUCT REGISTRATION
  240. --------------------
  241. WorldTime for Windows (version 2.1) is shareware, not freeware.
  242.  
  243. The single-user registration fee for this product is $16.00
  244. (U.S.).  Registrations ordered from outside the continental
  245. United States or Canada should include an additional $2.00 for
  246. shipping and handling.
  247.  
  248. Multiple-user site licenses are available for this product.
  249. Site license registrations are a cost-effective way of
  250. registering several end-users for a substantially lower
  251. per-copy cost than individual registrations.

  253. Complete registration information, including printable
  254. registration forms, is provided in the WTIME21.HLP file
  255. shipped with the shareware version of WorldTime.  The
  256. WTIME21.HLP file is accessed via the Windows Help System
  257. -- menu bar command "Help/Contents."  Registration information
