I would think that having to disassemble the case to reprogram the unit would be a sufficient deterrent to unauthorized reprogramming.
I previously had an ICOM W2A. The W2a is a 2 meter 70cm tranceiver that
that has a wide band receive from about 100 to 900 mhz. The specifications
on the wide band receive are not guarenteed! This means that both you and I
could own a W2a, and my receive of 500mhz or any other frequency for that matter
may be better than yours. The wideband receive is there, but ICOM does not guarentee the specs. Even with all of the Shortcomings, I wish that I still own
W2a.
