SCANPRO USER'S GUIDE
--------- ------------
A Monitoring Database for 400-channel Scanners
-----------------------------------------------
SCANPRO
(c)1993 Szechuan Software,Inc.
by
Chris Schoenfeld
I.INTRODUCTION
ScanPRO is a database program for 400-channel scanners,
such as the Realistic Pro-2006. Besides the usual sort and search
functions, ScanPRO also includes some special features not
found in other scanner databases. ScanPRO will automatically
display entries containing special keywords in a characteristic
color, i.e.:
Entries containing the keyword: Will be displayed in:
------------------------------- ---------------------
Police BLUE
Fire RED
the words "Sheriff" or "County" BROWN
ScanPRO also takes advantage of the 50-line VGA display
capability. Pressing F4 will switch any IBM-8514 compatible VGA
monitor into this mode for displaying two banks simultaneously,
with the ability to page through all 10 banks. Future updates
will allow editing in this mode as well.
Reports to any standard dot-matrix printer will print in
compressed mode, enabling all 400 channel entries to be reported
in only 4 pages.
Another special feature of ScanPRO is the ability to
identify a police 10-code at any time by hitting the F6 key. You
can customize the standard text file "code.dat" with any text
editor to make changes for any different 10-codes in your area.
II.GETTING AROUND IN SCANPRO
Upon startup of ScanPRO, you will be automatically greeted
by the colorful startup screen. You will then be sent to
the main display screen displaying bank 1. The Bank number you
are working in will be displayed in the upper right corner of
your screen. The bottom of the screen will display a menu bar
identifying the function key assignments. A dialogue box will
also appear in the middle of the screen reminding you that you
are using an unregistered copy. Ponder this, and press any key to
make it disappear (registration will make it disappear
permanently!).
A.Editing
You will immediately be in edit mode in the first channel
description field. You can start by typing the name of your
favorite station. As you press each letter, that letter will
automatically append itself to the entry. If you see it on the
line, it is the content of that field. Pressing <ENTER> at the
end is not necessary (It will just send the cursor to the next
line). Pressing <TAB> will send you into the frequency edit
field, which DOES require you to press <ENTER> after typing in
the frequency. In other words, entering an entry requires
pressing the following keys:
Concord Police Department <TAB> 155.625 <ENTER>
Entries will appear as white until you sort, move to another
bank or go to DualView mode. After returning from those
functions, ScanPRO will automatically analyze all entries for
keywords and display them in their characteristic color. Entries
not containing keywords will be displayed in grey.
B.Moving Around in Edit and DualView modes
<PgUp><Pgdown> will move you through the banks. Arrow keys
will move you between channels. <HOME> will send you to the first
selection in a bank, and <END> will send you to the last entry in
the bank.
Pressing F4 will automatically switch you VGA monitor to
50x80 text mode, enabling you to view two banks at a time. The
only actions you can perform in this mode are <PgUp> and
<PgDown>. <ESC> will return you to edit mode.
C.Printing A Report
Pressing F1 will display a dialogue box asking to confirm
your choice to print a full 4-page report of all banks to the
printer. The report will display the header:
Page 1
SCANPRO Frequency Management Report Sat May 29 19:38:12 1993
Bank 1 Bank 2 Bank 3
In regular size print. The remainder of each page will vertically
list the contents of each bank, 3 banks per page in three
columns in compressed mode.
D.Saving To Disk
Pressing F2 will display a dialogue box asking you to
confirm your request to overwrite the existing default file
default.fil. Answering "y" will save all 400 channels to the
file.
E.Opening files from disk
Pressing F3 will display a dialogue box asking you to
confirm your request to load the default file. All existing
entries you have entered will be erased, so be sure to only
append to your default file.
F.Sorting
Pressing F5 will display a dialogue box asking to confirm
your choice to sort the bank alphabetically. answering "y" sort
the entire bank, placing empty entries on the end.
G.Looking up 10-codes
Pressing F6 will display a dialogue box asking you to enter
the number of the 10-code to look up. It will then display the
message that 10-code represents. For example:
10-34
Officer Down or Needs Asst
The standard DOS text file "code.dat" contains all 10-codes
currently used by most police departments in New Hampshire. If
different codes are used in your area, you may create a new
"code.dat" file using any standard text editor. Simply type in
each message IN ORDER, followed by a newline, just like the
default "code.dat" file. The program determines the position of
the 10-code by counting lines so do not leave empty lines in the
file and keep the messages in ORDER!
H.Searching
Pressing F7 will display a dialogue box asking you to enter
a frequency to search for. The program will then search all 400
channels and display each entry match. You may toggle through
these by pressing <ENTER>. This is a good way to identify little-
heard stations when you pick them up, or to check all 400
channels for duplicates.
I.Exiting the program
Pressing <ESC> in edit mode will prompt you to verify your
exit from ScanPRO. Be sure to save any changes before exiting
the program.
ScanPRO also contains a Windows 3.1 compatible icon:scan2006.ico

A notice from the author:
I hope you enjoy using ScanPRO. After using a lot of fine
scanning programs, I wanted to write one which had all the
features that I most needed, and that could perform any function
at anytime with a quick keypress, so that I could use it while
monitoring to find unknown 10-codes or unrecognized frequency
receptions. This is why all functions are regulated to the F7
keys, and why you don't have to press <ENTER> to edit a field.
Just about everything is on-the-fly!
If you like my program, please send $10.00 to the address
listed below. This is my first shareware effort and I hope you
will make it a success so that I can publish such programs in
the future.
Happy Scanning!
