Harris county law enforcement agencies are now operating on a new 25 channel
trunked radio system. The system has been operating since the first of the year
but the VHF radio system is still in use. The Harris county sheriff VHF
frequencies are rebroadcasting the traffic on the trunked system. The trunked
radio system is being used by the sheriff's department, all county constables,
medical examiner, etc. The frequencies marked with the asterisk (*) are
channels used for controller site data to the mobile units. At least two of
these frequencies will have data on them at any time. When not used as a data
channel, these frequencies will be used for voice traffic. A phone patch for
use by the mobile units is also in use in this system. It may pop up on any
frequency in the system.
