YAESU FT-5200 - Positive:
1. Nice receiver implementation. Significantly less intermod than the
Kenwood or (heaven forbid) an HT.
2. Remote mount head quick releases. Which means that I can detach the
control head/mic and stash it in my glove box when parked.
3. Built in duplexer. I use a dualband antenna, so this saved me ~$30
on buying a duplexer.
4. Simple user interface.
YAESU FT-5200 - Negative:
1. Intermod. Even though it is better than the Kenwood, I still felt the
need for a CTCSS (PL) decoder, a $60(?) option.
2. Few memories. I am spoiled on having enough memories to program all the
channels I *might* be interested in. With the Yaesu, that is not possible
(16 memories/band, I think).
3. No DTMF memories.
4. Can't switch bands from the mic. This is a nit, but it's something I'd
really gotten used to on the Kenwood.
5. No AM aircraft receive.
6. A general lack of bells and whistles. Few scan modes, no memory
reconfiguration, etc.
