There is a mod to open the transmit frequency, Bill. You must remove a tiny component the size of
half the head of a pin. I modified mine because as it comes it excludes a portion of the
70cm amateur band.
Rumor has it there may be a receive mod, too, but I haven't heard anything about it. and haven't
looked since I own a scanner that is 100 times better than the best HT on non-ham freequencies. I
just don't care much about listening there.
Be advised... the stock antenna works very well inside the ham bands. Even an excursion to tthe
162.55 WX frequency leaves it sadly lacking. The local WWX station is barely audible with my 508,
yet with another antenna... full scale.
