  8. This is a user supported software product.  It is not public domain, and
  9. as such it is NOT free software.  You are granted permission to use this
  10. product on a trial basis.  If you wish to continue to use this product
  11. after the trial period you must register by sending $20 plus your name and
  12. address to the Author.

  15. This utility is designed to give practice in Morse code.
  16. It will allow the speed and sound frequency to be adjusted to suit the
  17. student.  For those interested in an Amateur radio license, there are
  18. different speed requirements for the various classes of licenses:
  19.  
  20.               Novice      -  5 words per minute
  21.               Technician  -  5 WPM
  22.               General     - 13 WPM
  23.               Advanced    - 13 WPM
  24.               Extra       - 20 WPM
  25.  
  26. It is desirable to practice in short sessions of about 20 minutes
  27. each, twice a day.
  28. This program is designed to help the student attain the 13 WPM speed
  29. without realizing the customary 'plateau'.
  30.  
  31. If you are having extreme trouble with the method that this program
  32. uses to help with the learning process, then the optional switch "/C"
  33. can be used to enable the adjustment of the character sending speed.
  34.  
  35. It is not desirable to adjust this speed below 13 WPM, as too slow
  36. of a character speed would require the student to relearn the sound
  37. of each character as the speed is increased
  38.  
  39.  /C - Optional switch to allow character sending speed adjustment
  40.             ie:  AUTOCW /C
  41.  
  42. The sending speed must always be less than the character speed.  Therefore,
  43. if speeds greater than 20 WPM (the default character speed) is desired, the
  44. '/C' switch must be given and then the desired character and sending speed
  45. may be entered as desired over the range of 5 to 40 WPM.

  47. You may also change the speed at any time by pressing F8.  This will
  48. allow you to change both the character and spacing speed, as well as
  49. the tone.

  51. The following keys send the appropriate Morse code character:
  52.  
  53.                         numbers '0' - '9'
  54.                         letters 'A' - 'Z'
  55.                         period '.'
  56.                         comma  ','
  57.                         slant  '/'
  58.  
  59. The following special keys send the indicated Morse code character:
  60.  
  61.        Key     Displays as     Sends
  62.  
  63.        =       *BT*            Double Dash (BT)
  64.        ;       *AR*            End of Message (AR)
  65.        [       *AS*            Wait (AS)
  66.        ]       *SK*            End of Work (SK)
  67.        \       *KN*            Go Only (KN)

  69. Note: Characters are printed to the screen just before they are sent. This is
  70. to allow the student to become familiar with the characters as they are heard.
  71. Also, any key pressed that is not assigned a proper morse character will
  72. simply be echoed to the screen.

  74. AUTOCW can generate Morse code using three different methods:
  75.  
  76.        1 - From the keyboard.
  77.  
  78.        2 - Randomly generated groups of 5
  79.                Letters only
  80.                Letters and Numbers
  81.                Letters, Numbers, and punctuation
  82.                A list of any characters that you input
  83.  
  84.        3 - Input from a text file.
  85.  
  86. When you start AUTOCW it will prompt you for the desired speed.  Also you may
  87. set the frequency of the sound from the speaker.

  89. To generate random code, at any time press:
  90.  
  91.        F2 for letters only
  92.        F3 for letters and numbers
  93.        F4 for letters and punctuation
  94.        F5 for a list of letters of your choice
  95.  
  96. During random code generation, press any key to return to keyboard mode.
  97.  
  98. You may create practice files or simulated exams with a standard text editor.
  99. If you use a word processor be sure to create the file in ASCII or
  100. NON-DOCUMENT mode.  To send text from a file, press F7, you will be prompted
  101. for the name of the file to be sent.  Enter the file name and press return.
  102. The file will now be sent.  To interupt the sending, press any key and you
  103. will be returned to keyboard mode.
