NN_Tweak
NN_TWEAK.PRG and NN_TWEAK.RSC should be placed in the same
folder as NameNet.
Follow the on-screen instructions and you can change some of
the defaults not alterable within NameNet. It will modify an
existing NAMENET.DAT file or create one if it does not exist.
COLOUR SCREEN
The colour palette can only be changed while in colour mode.
On an ST there are only 8 levels to choose from for each
colour. They are shown as:
01234567
0 is off 7 is brightest.
On an STE or TT there are 16 levels. For technical reasons they
are shown as
08192A3B4C5D6E7F
0 is off. F is brightest.
NOTE If you are altering a NAMENET.DAT file produced by early
unregistered versions of NameNet (NameNet 3 and earlier) and it contains
your Mercury PIN then this will have to be re-entered from within NameNet.
This is because these un-registered versions did not encrypt your PIN.
The NAMENET.DAT file generated by this program will not be
fully useable when NameNet is run without a registered key file.
The NAMENET.DAT file has a variable which controls modem response times.
NN_TWEAK can be used to set this. You have a choice or NORMAL, SLOW, LONG.
You should not change this unless you are having a problem with your
modem. This should only occur with old modems operation at 300 baud in
pulse dial modes. SLOW should be sufficient. The symptom is that the PICK
UP PHONE NOW message appears before the modem has completed dialling.
Another symptom with slow pulse dial modems, particularly with
modern digital exchanges, can be that although it pulse dials
you do not get any ringing tone. The solution may well be to
add a comma to the end of the dialling string.
Please note that you need to set the baud rate using your
normal software (Atari control panel, Emulator, Harlekin etc).
When run with an old NAMENET.DAT file created by an earlier version of
NN_TWEAK or NameNet you may get a list of missing items. This is perfectly
normal. Once the new .DAT file is saved these messages will disappear.
The NameNet Accessory
The NameNet Accessory allows NameNet data files to be accessed
while running other programs. This accessory uses additional
index files that can be generated by versions of NameNet 2.800
or later. This facility can be switched on using NN_Tweaks.
Normally NN will detect the presence of the accessory and enable
this automatically. However if you are using an accessory
switcher like Chameleon NN_tweak may have to be used. This has
to be switched on so that NameNet ACCess's index files are
updated every time the data file is changed.
Flush Keyboard
Because of the Atari's keyboard auto-repeat it can be an advantage to
"flush" the keyboard when return is pressed when the main screen is
being viewed.
NN_Tweak allows you to select whether this flushing takes place. If it
does you can choose whether it happens before or after the link windows
are displayed. (This is only important when using large files)
