General Information
Fast GIF can be run from Medium or Low resolution. This program
requires some large buffers, but it will display most GIF files on a
520 ST. Just make sure you don't have any accessories loaded into
the computer.
If you are converting GIF files make sure your disk has enough room
to hold the .PI1 files.
To exit the program while it is Displaying or Converting GIF files
press any key. There might be a small delay, but it should exit in a
few seconds.
How fast is Fast GIF???
---------------------------------------------------------
| Program | Time (Sec) | Operation | Quality |
---------------------------------------------------------
| FASTGIF.PRG | 67 135 | Convert | #2 Good |
| BGIF.PRG | 383 523 | Convert | #3 Good |
| GIFSPC.PRG | 986 1251 | Convert | #1 V. Good |
| GIFSHOW.PRG | 222 257 | Display | #4 Bad |
---------------------------------------------------------
This table is based on converting or displaying five GIF pictures.
The GIF pictures ranged in size from 10K to 173K and had a combined
size of 364K. The first time is for ram disk, and the second time is
for floppy disk. The quality rating is my personal opinion of the
pictures produced by the programs.
Fast GIF is 3 times faster than any of the other programs, and except
for GIFSPC.PRG it produces higher quality pictures.
Where do we go now?
These are some of the things I would like to add to Fast GIF.
1) Low resolution overscan support, maybe a resolution of 354x232
2) Spectrum support
3) STe palette support (4 bits per gun instead of 3 bits)
4) Maybe an STe mode that allows you to scroll around on a big screen
5) Make it Faster
There are a lot of things I would like to add to Fast GIF, but I need
your help. So, support Shareware!
