A short note for the world.
HI...
Here is general release 3d of CLA2 (May 95).
If you don't know what CLA is, then read the file DOC\MANUAL.TXT, or
use the ST-Guide accessory to access the file CLA.HYP for online hypertext
help. This is (as far as I am aware) the first REAL manual to be released in
this way on the Atari (ie. all the diagrams 'n' stuff are embedded in the
document.
I would recommend the use of the Hypertext manual for the sections it covers
as it is much more up to date than the MANUAL file.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This release is a bugfix for CLAv2r3 which should correct compatibility with
older TOS versions.
See DOC\CHANGES.TXT for new features and bugfixes.
One major change is that the boot sequence window has been removed, and
replaced with a text file BOOT.DBG that CLA creates in it's current
directory as it starts up.
IMPORTANT:
You may NOT distribute this release generally. Please refer to
DOC\COPYRGHT.TXT
for the conditions & limitations to this.
The program may still have some uncharacterised bugs, but as far as I'm aware,
nothing which will eat your hard disc :) - see DOC\BUGLIST for details.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You will require:
BASIC SYSTEM:
Platform : ST
Memory : 2 Meg
Storage : DS Drive.
Display : SM124 (High Res) or any Min. 400 vertical res. display.
(Works with MONSTER, double2 and other Virtual Screens).
OS : Any TOS
I am currently targetting a slightly better machine than this base,
especially display-wise, as 640*400 gets very cramped and, to compete with
IBM applications, there is a large use of TOS4 3D buttons & dialogs for visual
impact.
STANDARD TARGET (Recomended System):
Platform : MegaSTE / TT / Falcon
Memory : 4Meg - required for running CLA at higher res.
Storage : Hard drive, requires 1 Meg for basic installation - this
WILL increase as the synthesis tool is added.
Display : Crazy Dots / TT / Falcon extended (FalconScreen/Blowup030)
@ 800*600 (no problem for a falcon, PD stuff gives this even on
the very cheapest SVGA NI monitor you can buy).
+ 16 Colours.
+ a gfx accellerator (NVDI's VDI extensions are supported & will improve
things by a LOT if you have enough RAM)
OS : TOS 4.02+, multiTOS 1.04+ (you'll need a lot of RAM for this though).
IMPORTANT NOTES
----------------
Due to a slight change in the format of .NET files, files produced by older
versions of CLA must be converted to load under CLAv2r3. Use NET2NET.TTP to
do this.
Users of ALL TT & MegaSTE oweners using VME bus based graphics cards MUST
replace the file
CONFIG.CLA\STARTUP.CLA
with the file
CONFIG.CLA\ET4000\STARTUP.CLA
- just copy the first file with the second. See the hypertext help file for
exactly why this has to be done.
Disclaimers
------------
Please read the file DOC\COPYRGHT.TXT for distribution policy & copyright
information.
The development machine is a 4/32Mhz Falcon030 with MultiTOS, NVDI & FalconScreen
so any smaller systems may have problems with memory (2Meg is probably enough
if you don't use MultiTOS) - running in higher resolutions will use more
memory - so beware. The off-screen bitmap functions will happily eat a
massive amount of RAM without batting an eyelid, so be warned - a 4 Meg machine
is essential for using the off-screen bitmap redraws in a decent res.
Let me know as soon as possible if there is a problem.
There is now a full printed and bound manual available to registered users of
CLA.
Beta testers should have been provided with this as a postscript file (please
request it in a different format if this is a problem - even ASCII, although
you'll lose all the illustrations).
The v1 documentation is as good a staring point as any - so I have updated it
and modified it to apply to v2, and included it as the file DOC\MANUAL.TXT.
BUT it is still mostly out of date, and doesn't give a full guide.
A better guide can be found in the hypertext help system, for which you will
require ST-Guide.acc. You may notice some sections missing from the hypertext
help system, or things mentioned which are not in the current distribution.
These are either incomplete as yet, or are only being made available to
registered users.
I very much hope that you will be able to try some of the new features
(which 'should' now work on most systems).
The file 'CHANGES.TXT' contains a list of updates.
The file 'BUGLIST.TXT' contains (surprise!) a list of bugs that I know
about. I would hope that you will read this & report any new ones (that
is the main condition of being a Tester :) )
The CLA source code currently runs to around 15K lines of Basic code, and some
assembly in the simulator. Written using HiSoft Basic 2 & Devpac2, using the
DU_LIB GUI library.
