  9. WhereIsIt? was designed with a single goal in mind - to create an easy-to-use,
  10. but powerful media catalog program, made to make our lives easier. Familiar
  11. and simplified user interface, extensive search capabilities and archive file
  12. support, combined with powerful report generator and compact, but rich in
  13. details database, all that should bring you the ultimate tool to handle your
  14. software collection.

  16. WhereIsIt? is a shareware software. See ORDER.TXT for more information on how
  17. to register this program. Be sure to read carefully the LICENCE.TXT file
  18. before using the program. The unregistered version imposes some limitations to
  19. the user, which are removed by registering the program. More information about
  20. these limitations can be found later in this document.

  49. Where is it? supports any media type Windows can use, including diskettes,
  50. CD-ROMs, removable disks like iomega Zip, hard disk, network drives etc.
  51. It will recognize and collect useful data for most of them, too. Also, it
  52. is compatible with all windows-supported file systems, including FAT, FAT32,
  53. and NTFS.

  58. catalog can easily be transferred as a single file to another computer, a
  59. friend, a public forum...  Small catalog-file size, with approximate usage
  60. of 2 MB for 70.000 files and folders (that's about 10 fully filed CD-ROMs).

  62. total size. Single-file, transferable catalog storage makes sharing your
  63. data easy.

  68. are. Want to get item's description? Just leave mouse pointer on it for a
  69. moment, description will popup as a tool-tip!.

  73. Detailed info on every object in the database (files, folders, disks,
  74. catalogs,...) each capable of accepting up to 4000 characters of description
  75. text. Each file or folder can have assigned user-defined category or up to
  76. three flags.

  78. Importing descriptions, help with describing items

  80. Auto-importing and exporting descriptions from 4DOS/NDOS, FILE_ID.DIZ and
  81. FILES.BBS description files, even if they are compressed inside zip, arj,...
  82. archive files! There is also a Description Assistant, interactive tool to
  83. help you describe your folders, based on special (custom defined)
  84. description files like FILE_ID.DIZ or read-me files.

  88. Handling of most compressed file formats on media scan, including ZIP, ARJ,
  89. RAR, CAB, LHA/LZH, TAR, ARC, ZOO, GZ, SFX... Compressed archive files can be

  91. right out from WhereIsIt? to any folder, and a file compressed inside archive
  92. file can be viewed or launched with associated program with one click!

  96. Powerful multi-threaded searching, with detailed settings on what to search
  97. for, where to search and how to search. Searching for duplicate items is
  98. there, too, as well as analyzing how data has changed since last
  99. cataloguing, or checking if older (or newer) versions of files are present
  100. somewhere in the catalog.

  105. your catalog collection. Export your data to ASCII file, print on your

  117. UNREGISTERED VERSION LIMITATIONS
  118. ================================
  119.  
  120. Unregistered version of WhereIsIt? has build-in some limitations in order to
  121. encourage registering this software. All of the following limitations are
  122. removed when program is registered using given serial number and registration
  123. code. For more information on how to register please read the ORDER.TXT file.

  125. - Catalog capacity is limited to total of 2 GB data storage, You will not be
  126.   able to add more data in the catalog, if the total sum of all media
  127.   capacities in the catalog already exceeds this limit. If you want to add
  128.   more data, you will have to open a new catalog.

  130. - Only one catalog can be opened at the time. If you would like to work with
  131.   another catalog, you must first close the current one.
  132.  
  133. - Auto-loading catalogs on program startup is disabled. Registered users can
  134.   setup a list of catalogs to automatically load when program is starting.

  136. - All reports will include a visible message saying they were generated with
  137.   unregistered version.
  138.  
  139. - Tips on program startup can not be disabled in the unregistered version. The
  140.   first tip will always remind you that you are working with an unregistered
  141.   program.

  144. DISTRIBUTION
  145. ============

  147. Evaluation versions of WhereIsIt? are distributed as Shareware. This means
  148. that users are encouraged, subject to restrictions described in the License
  149. Agreement, to share copies of this program with friends, associates and
  150. bulletin boards. Please remember that if you use this software you are
  151. required to pay the registration fee of $30 as described in the License
  152. Agreement (LICENSE.TXT).
