Visuactive allows you to perform common functions such as :
- Hotkeys (Ctrl+C, Alt+F4...)
- Menu sequences (File-Open)
- Command lines (to execute an application)
- Typing frequent text ("Thanks for...")
- Performing Windows functions (minimize...)
... just drawing the function on the screen.
Note: the first point you draw defines the window on which the action is performed.

[Configuring an app]
- While Visuactive is open, run the software you want to configure, and draw any symbol inside it. Visuactive will capture a few informations.
- Go back to Visuactive, and select "Application header" in the "Options" menu. A dialog box opens.
- Click "New". Several fields will be filled automatically.
- Fill the others fields as you want. You'll be able to type the application's name, to select its type (word processor, graphics, etc.), and other information.
- Click "OK". The application set is saved to disk. Its name is now in the schemes list.
[Configuring a shortcut]
Configuring a shortcut is divided into two parts : the shortcut itself, and the action.
The shortcut:
- Fill the shortcut's name into the appropriate edit box.
- Select its shape. That's the one you will have to draw to perform the action.
- If you want, select a sound.
The action:
- Hotkeys:
Select in the appropriate boxes the keys you want to be pressed. For instance, to make an undo hotkey (Ctrl+Z), select CTRL in the first list box, and type Z in the second one.
- Menu sequence:
Type in this box the menu sequence you want. For File/Save, for instance, type FS in this box. It corresponds to the underlined characters displayed in the menu.
- Keystroke:
You can type here any text (e.g. signatures for word processors). To type a TAB character, press Ctrl+Tab.
- Command line:
Type here the program you want to execute, or select it using the Browse function.
If you just type the file name without its path, then this file will be searched in the Windows, Windows\System and Visuactive directories.
[Options]
Auto-hide:
Once you have drawn a symbol, Visuactive can be hidden automatically for your convenience.
Select the way Visuactive hides its window : minimize it, hide it so you cannot see it at all (anyway, the icon stays in the task bar near the clock), or don't hide at all.
At Start Up:
Idem, choose here the way Visuactive is shown or hidden at startup.
[Languages]
You may have several schemes for the same application. Each of them may work for a specific language. To avoid conflicts, Visuactive runs the following method.
- The Prefered Language schemes are put first in the app list (above the symbols list).
- The Default Language schemes are then put if they have not been found in the Prefered Language list.
- Then, the other schemes are put, only if they are unique.
You may not have to worry about this procedure. Visuactive does the job for you. Just choose your own language in the Prefered Language box, and another (English may be a good choice) in the Default Language box.
Visuactive is available in different languages. Its resources (texts into menus, dialog boxes, etc.) are in external files, so it's very easy to add a new language for Visuactive. You can change it if there are language files on your disk in the \visua\system directory. Just select it in the appropiate list box. Those files may look like "vis_eng.dll" for English, "vis_spa.dll" for Spanish, and so on.
Language files can be found on line, on the internet, and can be copied freely, just like the unregistered version of Visuactive.
[Mouse Button menu]
You can draw symbols either with the right, left (for left-handed users) or middle mouse button. Please choose it in the Options menu.
For the middle mouse button, you must have the appropriate driver. Contact your mouse dealer if it doesn't work with this button.
For the left-handed users, the mouse buttons need to be swapped. You can do this in the Control Panel. Visuactive will update its menu automatically when you restart it.
[Sounds]
Visuactive can play sounds for recognition events.
- Symbol recognized:
Choose this option if you want Visuactive to play a sound immediately after you have drawn a recognized symbol.
Each shortcut can keep a different sound name (see "Configuring a shortcut" for more info). To play those sounds, click "One per shortcut".
If you prefer to play the same sound for all the recognized symbols, click "One for all shortcuts" and type its name into the edit box. Click the "..." button to browse on the disk.
- Symbol not recognized:
You can make Visuactive to play an "alert" sound when you have not drawn a good symbol. Just type it into the edit box.
[Context menu feature]
The right button is often used to display a context menu. If you use Visuactive with this button, the context menu feature shoulf not be disabled.
- If you right click, the menu appears.
- If you draw a symbol, this menu does not appear, and the symbol is recognized.
However, there may be conflicts in some applications. In this case, you need to configure the application. Select a "Level", starting from zero, until it works fine.
[Registration]
If you run the shareware version of Visuactive, you may want to register. Please go to the Help | Registration | Information menu and see all the benefits of registering (free updates, full tech support, etc.).
[Removing Visuactive]
If you want to remove Visuactive from your computer system, you have to delete its directory. There is no file in other ones, so you can uninstall it gracefully. You may use the Windows explorer to do this.
