  7. Thank you for trying The Market Analyzer for Windows
  8. (MAWIN).
  9.  
  10. Reinstallation/Upgrade Notice:
  11.  
  12. First, if you are upgrading, or re-installing, it is
  13. a good practive to backup all MAWIN files first.
  14.  
  15. When upgrading, we recommend installing to the same
  16. directory as you are currently using. Your 
  17. Authorization Code will still be good for the
  18. same release number (1.X, 2.X, etc.), and if you
  19. install to the same directory, over your old files
  20. it will preserve a file called register.dat, and 
  21. you will not need to re-enter registration information.

  23. If you have historical quote files (*.day) you want
  24. to keep, you may either select custom installation,
  25. and de-select "data files", which will avoid over-
  26. writing of your files with installation files of
  27. the same name.  This is an advantage if the MAWIN
  28. installation is a few weeks old, and will therefore
  29. contain history files not updated in that amount of
  30. time.  But the installation may also contain new or
  31. enhanced history files which you will want, so the
  32. best option may be to save your files, and then do
  33. a full installation, and see what you get.

  36. Overview:
  37.  
  38. MAWIN is a program for downloading, viewing,
  39. and analyzing historical stock quote data from free
  40. sites on the Internet, and includes several data
  41. files including the DJIA historical quotes by day
  42. since 1901!  It is preset to certain useful sites,
  43. and is user configurable to any site.  MAWIN makes
  44. its connection to the Internet through Windows Sockets.
  45.  
  46. To optimize performance, the program has initially been
  47. targeted at Windows 95 and a Pentium-Compatible
  48. processor. As it has been compiled for these targets,
  49. use in other environments is not recommended.

  51. It has been tested on systems with 16 and 32 megabytes
  52. of RAM.  Use on a system with less RAM should work
  53. fine, but has not been tested.
  54.  
  55. You will need about 6 Megabytes of disk space, and
  56. this will grow as your collection of historical stock
  57. quotes grows.  (Frequent backup is a good idea.)
  58.  
  59. We would be pleased if you would evaluate the program
  60. for a free trial period, after which it will become 
  61. inoperative if you have not completed registration.
  62.  
  63. Like other programs distributed electronically, during
  64. an introductory period, the program will be designed
  65. to have a limited lifetime, in case this version needs
  66. to be recalled for technical or legal reasons. The limited 
  67. lifetime will likely be lengthened or eliminated
  68. in future releases.

  70. You are encouraged to register electroncially.  There
  71. is a fee, which is minimal, and will be considered a
  72. non-refundable handling fee.  While continued
  73. support or availability is planned, it cannot be
  74. guaranteed.

  76. If reaction to this version is favorable, when it
  77. expires, a newer version will be available for download,
  78. and either your valid registration information or your
  79. trial period (if any remains) will still apply.

  81. Currently, when you register for the current version,
  82. your registration will be valid through and including all
  83. version 1.X releases.

  85. Further information will be presented as you run the
  86. program for the 1st time, and through its built-in help.
  87.  
  88. You may want to move these setup files to a temporary
  89. directory.  You will no longer need them once installation
  90. is complete.
