  1. GkSetup Readme
  2.  
  3. This is the first released version of GkSetup. There is no
  4. additional documentation package. The only thing you have is this
  5. readme. To use this software you need a copy of Microsofts COMPRESS.EXE.
  6. Don't ask me where to get it !
  7.  
  8. You should have noticed that GkSetup is packaged with itself.
  9. If you liked that Setup you will like the ones you create
  10. with this package.
  11. Vital Parts of this software:
  12.  
  13. BLDSETUP.EXE
  14.   This is a graphical utility for creating a file called SETUP.OPT.
  15.   It contains necessary information about your Setup Project.
  16.   It also calls COMP.BAT with runs COMPRESS.EXE. You may
  17.   adapt this one to point to the correct path.
  18.   The data file created will be called SETUP.DAT / SETUP.DA_
  19. SETUP.EXE
  20.   This is the Setup application itself. It reads the compressed
  21.   Setup data and contains this nice user interface.
  22. GKSUI10.EXE
  23.   This is the little utility for the automatic uninstall feature.
  24.   After the last GkSetup-Application has been uninstalled it
  25.   also removes itself using the wininit mechanism.

  27. To create you own Setup.
  28. Step 1: Create/Edit your data
  29.   2 directories called NORMAL and SYSTEM should have been installed
  30.   with the GKSetup package. Into the NORMAL directory you should copy
  31.   all files that should be copied to your applications target
  32.   directory.
  33.   The files copied into the SYSTEM directory will be copied to
  34.   your customers Windows\SYSTEM directory.
  35.   *** If you need the automatic uninstall
  36.   GKSUI10.EXE has to remain in this directory ! Do NOT DELETE it !
  37. Step 2: Edit Readme/License files
  38.   If you are planning to display a readme/license text you have to
  39.   create a README.TXT and LICENSE.TXT.
  40. Step 3: BLDSETUP - Create/Edit Setup Options
  41.   Launch BLDSETUP.EXE, select new and follow all available steps.
  42.   Everything should be easy enough for not explaining it here.

  44.   The last step... Build it ...will create YOUR SETUP.OPT and SETUP.DA_
  45.   for your setup project.
  46. Step 4: Create distribution media
  47.   Copy YOUR Readme and License File to your media.
  48.   Copy SETUP.EXE, SETUP.OPT and SETUP.DA_ to your media.
