  20. System Requirements
  21. ---------------------

  23. Before beginning the installation of Maple V Release 4, check to see that
  24. your computer fulfills the following requirements:
  25.  
  26.   * Intel 386, 486, Pentium, or fully compatible processor
  27.   * 5 Mb of free hard disk space
  28.   * 8 Mb of RAM
  29.   * Microsoft Windows 3.1x or Windows NT 3.5x or Windows 95

  32. Installation
  33. ------------
  34.  
  35. The following are the installation instructions for 
  36. Maple V Release 4 for these platforms:
  37.  
  38.   MS Windows 95
  39.   MS Windows NT 3.5x
  40.   MS Windows 3.1x
  41.  
  42. Please note that Windows 95, Windows NT, and Windows 3.1 versions
  43. come on the same set of disks. 
  44.  
  45. 1. Install on a system running Windows 95 by doing the following:
  46.  
  47.   (a)  Insert Disk 1 of the Maple V distribution disks, or if you
  48.        have the CD-ROM version, insert the CD-ROM.
  49.   (b)  Within the Windows 95 environment, select START/RUN and type
  50.        "a:install" in the dialog box for the Run command.  Then press
  51.        the Enter key, or click on the OK button (or run "install" from
  52.        the CD-ROM).
  53.   (c)  Follow the instructions that the installer provides.
  54.        Insert the other distribution disks when requested. 
  55.       
  56. 2. Install on a system running Windows 3.1 or Windows NT by doing
  57.    the following:
  58.  
  59.   (a)  Insert Disk 1 of the Maple V distribution disks or if you 
  60.        have the CD-ROM version, just insert the CD-ROM.
  61.   (b)  Within the Program Manager select FILE/RUN type
  62.        "a:install" in the dialog box for the Run command.  Then press
  63.        the Enter key, or click on the OK button (or run "install" from
  64.        the CD-ROM).
  65.   (c)  Follow the instructions provided by the installer.
  66.        Insert the other distribution disks when requested. 
  67.  
  68.    If you are installing under Windows 3.1 and the installer tells
  69.    you that Win32s version 1.30 is not installed, please read "For
  70.    Windows 3.1 Users Only", below.
  71.  
  72. For Windows 3.1 Users Only:
  73.  
  74.   Maple requires Win32s version 1.30 or higher to run under Windows
  75.   3.1x. If you do not have Win32s version 1.30 installed on your system
  76.   already, then you should install it before installing Maple.  To
  77.   install Win32s version 1.30, choose File->Run from the Program
  78.   Manager and run the program, setup.exe, which resides on the disk
  79.   labeled `Win32s DISK 1', or in the directory `\windows\win32s\disk1'
  80.   on the CD. If you are certain that Win32s version 1.30 installation
  81.   or higher already exists, then you may press "Continue Anyway" to
  82.   install Maple without installing Win32s first.

  84.   Install Maple when the Win32s installation is complete.

  87. Problems Installing Win32s (Windows 3.1 Only):
  88.  
  89.   If Maple does not start up properly, or if the Microsoft program
  90.   Freecell does not run properly, then Win32s version 1.30 is not
  91.   properly installed on your computer.  If you have installed Maple but
  92.   chose not to install Win32s at that time, please install it now by
  93.   inserting disk 1 of Win32s setup, or by choosing the 
  94.   `\windows\win32s\disk1' directory of the CD.

  96.   If you continue to have problems, remove Win32s and re-install.

  99. How to Remove Win32s (Windows 3.1 Only):
  100.  
  101.   Follow this procedure only if you experience the problems described
  102.   in the section "Problems Installing Win32s", above.
  103.  
  104.   Delete the WIN32S directory, the WIN32APP directory, W32SYS.DLL,
  105.   W32S16.DLL, and WIN32S.EXE from your hard drive.  Although it is
  106.   possible to install Win32s version 1.30 on top of an old installation
  107.   of Win32s, it is better to remove the old files before installing the
  108.   new ones.

  110.   Edit the WIN32S.INI file on your hard drive. Below "[Win32s]", change 
  111.   the line which reads "SETUP = 1" to read "SETUP = 0".  Reboot your
  112.   computer and then re-install Win32s.
  113.  
  114.   Microsoft provides the Win32s installer as it is a Microsoft product.
  115.   Waterloo Maple can not claim any responsibility for either
  116.   Microsoft's installer or their product.

  118.   If problems persist, please contact your Maple technical support
  119.   representative.

  122. The Worksheet Interface
  123. -----------------------

  125. For help on the Worksheet Interface, see the help page ?worksheet.
  126. You may view this page either by typing "?worksheet" at the Maple
  127. prompt, or by choosing "Contents" from the "Help" menu and then
  128. selecting "Interface" from the main Contents help page.

  131. Viewing Other Worksheets
  132. ------------------------

  134. You may view worksheets created by the full version of Maple V
  135. Release 4 by choosing "Open" from the File menu.  However, not
  136. all commands in the full version of Maple are available in the
  137. demo version.  You may thus not be able to execute the commands
  138. in some worksheets.

  141. External Viewer for Web Browsers
  142. --------------------------------
  143.  
  144. You may use this demo version of Maple as a external viewer to view
  145. Maple worksheets on the World-Wide Web.  To do so you will need to
  146. configure your browser to start this demo version to view documents
  147. which end with the suffix (type) ".mws" or ".ms".
  148.  
  149. In the preferences setup of your Web browser, enter the following:
  150.  
  151.     Mime type:        application
  152.     Mime sub-type:    maplev4demo
  153.     File extensions:  mws,ms
  154.     Action:           Launch the application.
  155.     Command:          C:\MVR4DEMO\Wmaple.exe -b C:\MVR4DEMO
  156.  
  157. If you have chosen to install the demo in a location other than
  158. "C:\MVR4DEMO", then indicate the correct directory instead.
