  20. 1. What is Adr_Book?

  23.   Adr_Book is a database program that prints mailing labels, an address
  24.   booklet, envelopes, and several reports. Adr_Book also functions as
  25.   a phone dialer program. 
  26.  
  27.   The mailing labels can be printed to meet postal requirements for best
  28.   bulk mail rates: zip code order and postal bar-code. All major Avery
  29.   standard and A4 label sizes are supported. Font, point size, color
  30.   selections.

  32.   The envelopes can be printed in all popular sizes. The postal bar-code
  33.   can be printed. Different fonts, point sizes, and color can be specified 
  34.   for the return address and delivery address.

  36.   The address booklet can be printed in multiple dimensions ranging from
  37.   5.5" x 4.25" to 4.0" x 2.75".  This is very convenient for producing
  38.   booklets of your business contacts, but is also great for organizations,
  39.   clubs, and churches. The address booklet can also be printed in color.

  41.   The phone dialing works like most others, but I like to believe it is more
  42.   enjoyable and easier to use.

  44.   The design philosophy of Adr_Book was to make it intuitive and fun to use.
  45.   I think you will find this to be true. However, don't let this fool you
  46.   into believing Adr_Book is a simple and limited product. It has many 
  47.   features that can be used for more advanced use.

  50. 2. What is new since 2.1?

  52.   a. A feature has been added that allows a registered version of Adr_Book
  53.      to convert new shareware releases Adr_Book to fully functional
  54.      registered copies.

  56.   b. All of the phone numbers can now be displayed on the Graphical 
  57.      Address Book display.

  59.   c. The Email address can now be displayed on the Graphical Address
  60.      Book display. Clicking on the Email Address will copy it into the
  61.      paste buffer so it can easily be pasted into you Emailer.

  65.   a. A greater number of Avery Label sizes are now supported. Postal
  66.      bar-codes can be printed on labels. Font point size selection.

  70.      alignment of return address and delivery address can be specifed.

  75. 4. INSTALLATION

  78.   Disk Installation: Insert the floppy in drive A (or B) and run SETUP.EXE
  79.   from Windows Program Manager.

  81.   Zip File Installation: Unzip the files into a temporary folder. Run
  82.   the SETUP.EXE program that is extracted from the Zip file.

  85. 5. Registration Information

  88.   a. WHY REGISTER?

  91.   The shareware version of Adr_Book is limit to only 25 records in a single
  92.   data file.  The registered version removes this limitation. A
  93.   registered version can hold over 3000 records in an individual data file.

  95.   You will be entitled to one year of free upgrades.

  105.   The above two lines were in the 1.0 release of Adr_Book. It has been a
  106.   fairly successful product and I actually have been able to take Alberta
  107.   out for a couple of very nice evenings. Thank you for your registrations.

  109.   b. HOW DO I REGISTER?

  112.   Method 1:
  113.      Postal mail your order to:

  121.      With this method we will send you a disk with the latest version of
  122.      Adr_Book. Be sure to include your name and address.  There is a
  123.      registration form that can be printed from the online help of Adr_Book.

  125.   Method 2:
  126.      Electronic. This is my favorite method of registration. By this method 
  127.      we will either email you the latest registered version as an attachment
  128.      or point you to a web page that allows downloading of a registered
  129.      copy. This has a couple of advantages. First there is no shipping and 
  130.      handling cost. Second, we are assured that you have received the product.
  131.      (I am always concerned about the postal mail. You send a check, I send a 
  132.       disk, I cash the check, you don't receive the disk. Yuck!)

  141.   c. WHAT WILL IT COST ME?

  144.      An copy for personal use is $24.95 US. This allows you to have a copy
  145.      on a system at home and work.
  146.  
  147.      There is a $2.00 US charge for postal mailing a disk in the US or 
  148.      Canada. There is a $5.00 US charge for postal mailing a disk to any
  149.      other location in the world.

  151.      There is no shipping and handling charge if the software is delivered
  152.      electronically.

  154.      We can take Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. A check written
  155.      on US funds also works just fine. For credit card orders be sure to
  156.      include number and expiration date.

  158.      We am sorry to say that we can not cash Eurocheques, as banks here
  159.      in the USA want to charge us $35 for handling.

  180. One feature of Adr_Book not clearly stated anywhere concerns configuration
  181. information associated with a database file. Items such as the COM port to be 
  182. used for phone dialing, how labels are to be offset for printing, what fields 
  183. should be displayed in the graphical address book, etc. are part of the 
  184. configuration stored with each database file.
  185.  
  186. Almost all items that you set will be stored when you perform a save of your
  187. file. If you make a change to a record in your database, Adr_Book will ask
  188. you when you exit if you want to save this change. This is not true if you
  189. make a configuration change only. Remember, if you make a configuration
  190. item change, and you want it to be a permanent change, SAVE your database
  191. file.
