  1. First  of  all  I  like to explain the most significant difference
  2. between  the  printer  drivers,  so  you  can use the table in the
  3. buttom to find the best driver for your printer.  Please read this
  4. info!   Most  of  the  drivers 1-5 might work on your printer, but
  5. there are great(!) differences in performance.
  6.  
  7. (1) EpsonQPlus    Revision 5.1
  8.                   This driver needs a "Legal" character set (ESC-R-64)
  9.                   for printing ® and ©; Also shadow print is available.
  10.                   White areas on graphic dumps are allways converted to
  11.                   ESC-$-n if possible.
  12.                   This printer driver uses ESC-+-n as n/360inch command
  13.  
  14. (2) Star24Plus    Revision 5.2
  15.                   White areas on graphic dumps are allways converted to
  16.                   ESC-$-n if possible.
  17.                   This printer driver uses ESC-+-n as n/360inch command
  18.                   (see note *2)
  19.  
  20. (3) PanasonicPlus Revision 5.1
  21.                   White areas on graphic dumps are converted to
  22.                   ESC-$-n if
  23.                    a.) the white area is greater than 2inch and we're doing
  24.                       360XDPI graphic dumps
  25.                    b.) it's the white left border
  26.                    c.) ESC-$ is used wherever possible while doing
  27.                       <360XDPI graphic dumps.
  28.                   This printer driver uses ESC-+-n as n/360inch command
  29.  
  30. (4) Oki24Plus     Revision 6
  31.                   White areas on graphic dumps are converted to
  32.                   ESC-$-n if
  33.                    a.) the white area is greater than 2inch and we're doing
  34.                       360XDPI graphic dumps
  35.                    b.) it's the white left border
  36.                    c.) ESC-$ is used wherever possible while doing
  37.                       <360XDPI graphic dumps.
  38.                   This printer driver uses ESC-[-n as n/360inch command!
  39.  
  40. (5) Nec24Plus     Revision 5
  41.                   White areas on graphic dumps are allways converted to
  42.                   ESC-$-n if possible.
  43.                   This printer driver uses FS-3-n as n/360inch command
  44.  
  45. (6) CanonBJ130    Revision 8.1
  46.                   A BJ130 and BJ130e inkjet driver...
  47.                   Replaces all old Canon48 drivers.

  50. (7) CanonBJ10     Revision 1.1
  51.                   A BJ10/e inkjet driver...
  52.                   (see note *1)
  53.  
  54. (8) CanonBJ300    Revision 1.0
  55.                   A BJ300 and BJ330 inkjet driver wich works with
  56.                   the printers Proprinter mode
  57.                   (see note *1)

  59. (9) CanonEpson    Revision 1.0
  60.                   A BJ300 and BJ330 inkjet driver wich works with
  61.                   the printers Epson mode

  64. (10) Star9Plus    Revision 1.0
  65.                   This driver needs a "Legal" character set (ESC-R-64)

  73. Now how do you use this info for choosing the right driver out of
  74. #1 to #5 :
  75.  
  76. - First look into the table and get the possible drivers for your
  77. printer. Sorry... You still have to find the fastest driver by
  78. yourself. I have asked for testers on UseNet, but nobody seems to
  79. care. Shame on you all!
  80.  
  81. - Testing should begin with the lowest driver number!  For testing
  82. extract the Test.lzh archiv with "lharc e test.lzh" and execute
  83. the resulting script with "execute test".  Every "test" archiv is
  84. specific to the printer driver, so you have to extract it
  85. everytime you switch the driver!
  86.  
  87. - Some scripts print various text in different styles.  This
  88. gives you an easy way to find out, if the driver is the right
  89. choice.
  90.  
  91. - After this, the script prints a graphic.  The graphic is dumped
  92. using the ESC-$-n command.  If your printer get's ugly slow for
  93. this printing:  this is not your driver, except you like waiting
  94. ;-)
  95.  
  96. - Now look into you printer manual to find out, which n/360
  97. command is supported by your printer.  If your printer support
  98. both, ESC-+ and FS-3, you better choose one of the ESC-+ drivers!
  99.  
  100. - in case no driver works with your printer: see the "Readme"
  101. on "Special things to note"! Perhaps I should mention, if your
  102. problem is ESC-$ related: get an old driver revision <4 wich does no
  103. ESC-$. Anyway you should contact me, so I can do a faster version
  104. for your printer ;-)

  106. - in case you found the right driver, don't forget the special Readme for
  107. more info! And if possible... send me a note/hints so I can update the
  108. list/driver ;-)
