  5.    First, an apology to the people who have already registered JR-Comm.
  6.  
  7.    Although 0.93 was *supposed* to be the last release before 1.0, two
  8. major bugs still existed.  The dialer was giving alot of people fits and
  9. then I got word on GEnie that 0.93 would not work with ZMODEM at all.
  10.  
  11.    I had also purchased an A500 and a copy of BBS-PC! to test that beast
  12. and figure out what the hell was going on with that too.  (Please read the
  13. text file on that fiasco...)
  14.  
  15.    After finding out some other major bug-a-boos I decided, rightly or
  16. wrongly, to push 1.0 back a bit and concentrate on the fixes first before
  17. adding more "fat to the fire", so to speak.
  18.  
  19.    What you have now is what 0.93 *should* have been if I didn't have to
  20. leave on business for a month.  I'm fairly confident of how solid it is,
  21. and how well it will perform.  Nothing new has been added to this release,
  22. its 0.93 without the bugs, that's all.  It's a minor consolation to the
  23. people who've already registered, but I felt that I had to post a much
  24. better working version than 0.93 had turned out to be.  Again, I'm sorry for
  25. the delay of 1.0.

  27.    I'm also sorry for the inconviences that all the bugs of the previous
  28. releases had caused everybody else.

  30.    The registered users conference will be, or is now already available on
  31. my BBS.  Several people enclosed comments and suggestions for 1.0 with their
  32. registrations.  If any other registered users have any comments/suggestions
  33. please drop in for a few moments to let me know what they are.  The file
  34. "Future.txt" is a list of the features I've already planned for 1.0, if
  35. you have anything to add, please call.

  71.    This is the last preliminary release of JR-Comm.  The next release will
  72. be 1.0 and initially will be available only to those who are registered.
  73.  
  74.    Since this is more or less the beginning of life as a shareware product,
  75. I have little to base the future of this program on.  Although I have alot of
  76. ideas for future enhancements to JR-Comm, I also need some sort of incentive
  77. for me to want to continue working on this program...

  79.    Now, I can decide to go the commercial route with the end result of
  80. imposing another high-priced and possibly feature-compromised program
  81. on the Amiga community.  Or, you can help prevent this by registering
  82. yourself.

  84.    To paraphrase the inimitable Church Lady of Saturday Night Live,
  85. "Low-priced evolving Shareware or high-priced commerical horrorshow...
  86. ...YOU decide."

  88.    Ok, with that out of the way...
  89.  
  90.    This is the deal in a nutshell.  When 1.0 is finished I'm going to
  91. mail disks to everyone who is currently registered.  Three months after
  92. it was first released 1.0 will be made available to the unregistred
  93. public.

  95.    Why the wait?  Two reasons.  First, it's only fair to give registered
  96. users "first dibs" on a new version.  Second, the next release after 1.0
  97. (if the shareware thing is working out...) should be done by then and it
  98. will be winding its way out to the registered users while the general
  99. public is just getting their hands on the old version.

  101.    So, the non-registered people should be about one version behind the
  102. registered users.  Of course, this means that registered users are *not*
  103. to pass out a new release until I've said it's ok to do so...

  105.    Registered users will also have increased access levels and access to
  106. a private support conference on the BBS I run, see the "About" screen in
  107. JR-Comm for the phone number.
