GROCERY LIST INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Grocery List system provides an easy method of preparing your
grocery list and greatly simplifies your shopping trip. This is
how it works:
First, you execute the program named Grocery which is used to
select the items that are to be included in your grocery list.
Upon entry, you will be presented with a large list of possible
selections. The items are categorized as either Food, Household,
Health or Miscellaneous, and are selected by using pull down
menus. You may use this list or customize it to more accurately
reflect your own shopping habits. You will want to change the
Departments or Aisles to correspond to those in your grocery
store for sure.
Once you have located an item to buy, you simply use the left
mouse button to select the gadget marked "Buy". The item you are
selecting can be identified by the presents of the yellow cursor
in front of the item description. When an item is selected to be
included in the grocery list, an "x" will appear in the first
position of the item entry. If required, you may change the
quantity before selecting "Buy".
Secondly, after selecting the items to be included in your list,
execute the program named "MakeList". This program will then
extract the selected items from the grocery list database, sort
them into aisle or department sequence and then print the grocery
list which you will use on your shopping trip.
GROCERY PROGRAM DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS
Upon entry into the Grocery program you will see an area in the
middle of the screen that is used for entering and viewing the
items that may be selected. Along the right side of the screen
you will notice several yellow gadgets that are used to perform
various function. To initiate one of the function, simply use
the mouse to position the pointer over the appropriate gadget and
then depress the left mouse button. The functions that may be
performed are as follows:
Top - Selecting this gadget will cause the top
19 lines of the item database to be displayed.
Insert - Selecting this gadget will allow you
to insert additional items into your list.
The new entry will be made immediately above
the location of the cursor. The cursor may be
positioned to any item simply be using the
mouse to position the pointer and then
depressing the left mouse button, or by using
the Up and Down arrows on the keyboard.
Information that may be entered includes:
Item - Describe the item to buy.
Qty - Enter the quantity of the item to
buy. The quantity may vary with each
shopping trip.
UI - Enter the unit of issue of the item,
e.g., "EA" for each, "LB" for pound, etc.
Price - Enter the unit price of the item.
If you don't know the price, an
estimation will do just fine.
You will also notice that there is a
column labeled "Total". The total cannot
be directly altered by you. It is
automatically computed and entered for
you based upon the quantity and unit
price.
Note: As stated previously, new items
being added to the list are always
inserted in a line immediately above the
location of the cursor. Given this rule,
how do you insert a new item that is to
be the last item of a given category? If
you position the cursor over the first
item of the next category and then
insert, the new item will become a member
of that group. Solution: insert the new
item immediately before the last item in
the category and then use the Remove and
Reinsert gadgets to move the last item
to its proper location. Sounds
complicated? - not really. Another
method is to insert the items randomly
within the category and then use the Sort
option to put all the items in the
category in their proper sequence.
NOTE: Once you have entered Insert mode,
you will remain in this mode until the
ESC key is depressed.
Change - Selecting this gadget will allow you
to change an item. After selecting the Change
gadget, use the Right Arrow or TAB to move to
the the field to be changed. To change
numeric items, i.e., Qty and Price, you must
first use the Del key to remove the
previously entered data, then enter the
correct amount.
Delete - Selecting this gadget will cause the
item at the location of the cursor to be
deleted. Exercise caution when using this
option. It does exactly what it says.
Select Buy - Selecting this gadget will mark
the item as a candidate for inclusion in your
grocery list. As you select items to include
in your grocery list, the total bill is
displayed at the bottom of the screen. There
is a menu option which will allow you to clear
all the Buy indicators. Normally, you should
use that option to clear the list each time
you are ready to prepare a new grocery list.
Clear Buy - Selecting this gadget will clear
the buy indicator only for the item at the
location of the cursor.
Find - Selecting this gadget will allow you to
search the database for the occurrence of any
specified argument. You will be ask to enter
the search criteria upon selecting the option.
If an entry is located that meets the search
criteria, that entry will be displayed on the
screen at the location of the cursor.
Find Next - Selecting this gadget will allow
you to search the database for the NEXT
occurrence of the specified argument.
Remove - Selecting this gadget will cause the
item at the location of the cursor to be
temporarily removed from the database.
Reinsert - Selecting this gadget will cause a
removed item to be reinserted immediately
above the current location of the cursor. The
Remove/Reinsert options are used to move an
item from one location to another within the
database.
Bottom - Selecting this gadget will cause the
last 19 items in the database to be displayed.
The proportional gadget at the extreme right of the screen may be
used to scroll forward and backward a full screen at a time.
Simply position the pointer at the appropriate end of the gadget
and depress the left mouse button. The Up and Down Arrows may
also be used to scroll forward and backward through the database.
MAKE LIST DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS
Upon entry into the MakeList program, you will be given two menu
choices: (1) Print The List, and (2) Display Cost Summary.
If you select "1" those items that have been selected to buy are
sorted into Item within Department sequence and printed.
If you select "2" a cost summary by category is displayed. The
percentage of the total bill for each category is also displayed.
