Finally! It's here. A game from Vectorscope that's actually FUN TO PLAY.
We really wanted to finish ANSiDude first, but we got the idea for this and
just couldn't resist making this game. We hopefully will soon finish ANSiDude
and release both of these at the same time, but maybe this will go out first.
Anyway, we hope you enjoy this game. And as we've stated about five billion
times, comments and suggestions about our products are always appreciated.
Have fun!

(1) INSTRUCTIONS
You SHOULD know how to play VectorMines. If not, the instructions can also
be found online under the MISC menu. You start on a grid of hidden squares
Your cursor is the little animated square. Move it with the arrow keys. Press
<ENTER> to reveal a square. If you are in continuous mode, you don't have to
press enter to reveal. It's done automatically when you move. Press <M> to
toggle continuous mode on and off. In the lower-right hand corner of the
screen next to "CN-Mode". If the light is on, you are in continuous mode. If
not, you are in regular mode.
The purpose of the game is to clear out all of the spaces, avoiding the
mines. The mines are hidden at first. When you reveal a space, a number of
things might appear. You might hit a mine and die instantly. If you get a
blank space, there are no mines in the adjoining 8 spaces. A number might
appear, telling you how many mines are adjacent to that space. The cursor
blocks out what space you are currently on. You can see what space you are
blocking by looking at the little picture in the lower-right hand corner
under "Current Location".
In the lower-left hand corner of the screen you see how many spaces you
have left to clear. You also see how much time you've currently used. Once
you have cleared out all spaces, you win that grid. If you won in less
seconds than the person in the same difficulty level, you will get to enter
a 20 character name on the high score list.
It's hard to get used to sometimes, but eventually you will work out a
pattern for clearing mines. There IS a method to it. During the game, you can
quit out of the game to the main menu by pressing <ESC>

(3) MENUS
ÄÄÄThe "Main Menu" has six options.
"Play VectorMines" starts a new game
"Options" leads to a sub-menu with options for game play
"More Options" leads to another sub-menu.
"Misc" leads to a sub-menu with various information.
"Change Graphics" lets you load an add-on graphic set or use the default.
"Quit" lets you exit to DOS.
ÄÄÄThe "Options" menu lets you change game play.
ÄÄÄTo change some options, press enter. For others you use the left and right
ÄÄÄkeys to change the numbers. The grid options let you customize your game.
"Number of Mines" changes how many mines are on the grid.
"Animation Delay" changes how fast the cursor cycles through its animation.
"Columns on Playing Grid" changes how wide the playing grid is.
"Rows on Playing Grid" changes how tall the playing grid is.
"Sound Toggle" lets you choose if the sound is on or off.
"Quit to Main Menu" is easy to figure out.
ÄÄÄThe "More Options" menu has even more options. The DEFAULT settings change
ÄÄÄthe grid settings on the "Options" menu to a particular setting. You get
ÄÄÄbetter endings when using default settings.
"Set Grid to Default:EASY" is for beginners and small children only.
"Set Grid to Default:MODERATE" is a healthy medium setting.
"Set Grid to Default:HARD" is tough. You gotta be good to do this one.
"Continuous Mode as Start is:" lets you choose if you want to start new
games with continuous mode already activated.
"Explosion is:" toggles the loser's explosion on and off. If you think
the explosion gets in the way of seeing the mines, turn this off.
"Quit to Main Menu" is self-explanitory.
ÄÄÄThe "Misc" menu has some information about the game, etc.
"Help and Control" is online help on how to play.
"About Vmines" is on us (Vectorscope)
"High Score List" shows you the best mine hunters in this game.
"Quit to Main Menu". Try and guess what this is.
*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä
(3) CHANGING GRAPHICS
Choose "Change Graphics" from the main menu. You are prompted if you
REALLY want to change the graphics. Press <Y> or <N>. Next you are asked if
you want the default graphics or use an add-on file. Press <D> if you want to
use the built-in default graphics. Press <E> to load a file. After pressing
<E>, you have to enter a filename. Press enter to cancel. Or, enter the name
of an add-on file. All add-on files are anything with a GFX extension.
DON'T enter the file's .GFX extension, only the name. If you enter a wrong
name, the program will screw up. We'll try to fix this problem in the future.
Loading new graphics totally replaces the graphics you see during game play.
This is if you want a change of scenery.
*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä
(4) USING MAKEGFX.EXE
This is a goodie we included for those creative users out there. Use it if
you wish to make your own graphics. Most of the commands are online. If you
can't figure how to use it, then you probably wouldn't understand it anyway.
Experiment with all the keys it mentions online. You'll figure it out. You
can make your own graphic files from scratch or create your own. Hope this
pleases a lot of people out there.
*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä*Ä
(5) VARIOUS OTHER INFORMATION
Don't screw around with VMINES.HIS or VMINES.DAT or else the game might
not work. If somehow they are damaged, use VMRESET.EXE to re-create and reset
the config file and high score list. Don't distribute this game if all the
files are not included.
