  39. System Requirements
  40.  
  41.   The minimum software and hardware requirements your computer system needs
  42.   to run Ditto successfully are shown in the following list.
  43.  
  44.   o Windows version 3.1 or later. This program should run with all Windows
  45.     based operating systems including Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT, 
  46.     and Windows 95.
  47.  
  48.   o 2.0 megabyte (MB) of free disk space.
  49.  
  50.   o A mouse.

  52. Installation Procedures
  53.  
  54.   Installing Ditto on your computer is simple. To install, follow these 
  55.   steps:
  56.  
  57.   1. Start the Windows application and select the Program Manager.
  58.  
  59.   2. Select the run entry from the File menu item.
  60.  
  61.   3. Insert the Ditto disk into the disk drive.
  62.  
  63.   4. Keyin the letter of the drive that you inserted the disk into followed
  64.      by ":\setup" in the command line field. For example, if the disk is in
  65.      drive "a" you would type:

  67.      a:\setup
  68.  
  69.      Next, select the OK button on the dialog box. This will cause Ditto's
  70.      setup executable to start running.
  71.  
  72.      Note: Instead of running setup from the run menu entry, you also can 
  73.            simply double click setup.exe from the Program Manager or Windows
  74.            Explorer.

  76.   5. The setup executable will display a dialog box with a default 
  77.      directory specified in the field. If you want to install the files in 
  78.      another directory, key it in in this field.
  79.  
  80.   6. Select the Install button on the dialog box and the files will be
  81.      installed. If the specified directory does not exist, it will be 
  82.      created for you.

  84.   7. If no errors have occurred during installation, a dialog box claiming
  85.      successful completion will be displayed when all files have been 
  86.      copied and expanded.

  88.    If the installation was successful, a Sage program group will be created 
  89.    in the Program Manager. This will contain the Ditto program item. When 
  90.    you double click on this, Ditto will begin execution.

  92. Online Help
  93.  
  94.    Ditto's Online Help can be accessed in two different ways once it is 
  95.    running:

  97.    By selecting the Help entry under the Help menu item.
  98.    By selecting the F1 key from the keyboard.

  100.    The Online Help contains information that explains all aspects of this 
  101.    game and describes how to use all its functionality. This should be the 
  102.    user's main source of help.

  104.    Once the Help window is displayed, the buttons near the top help you find
  105.    the information you need. The Contents button displays a list of Help
  106.    topics that Ditto provides. The Search button displays a dialog box where 
  107.    you specify a topic to search for. The Back button displays the 
  108.    previously viewed topic. The History button displays a chronological list 
  109.    of all Help topics viewed during your current game session.

  111.    If you need to learn how to use Help, press the F1 key on the keyboard
  112.    while the Help window is open.

  114. Start Playing

  116.    Once Ditto is installed, start the game by double clicking the left mouse 
  117.    button on the Ditto program item that was created by the setup 
  118.    executable. After doing this, Ditto will begin execution by displaying 
  119.    the introduction screen. To stop this introduction and go to the main 
  120.    screen simply click the left mouse button.

  122.    To begin playing, select the Start entry under the Game menu item. You 
  123.    can also simply select the F2 key on your keyboard. Once this is done 
  124.    buttons will appear in the window and play begins.

  126. Rules of the Game

  128.    Object of the Game
  129.    The object of the game is to score as many points as you can by repeating 
  130.    the button sequence that is shown to you.
  131.  
  132.    How points are scored
  133.    Each time you select the correct button in sequence you are rewarded 
  134.    points. As the sequence of button selections gets longer, the amount of 
  135.    points rewarded for a correct button selection increases. Also, the more 
  136.    buttons that are present on the screen increases the rewarded points.

  138.    How to play
  139.    To start the game, select the Start entry under the Game menu item. You 
  140.    can also simply select the F2 key on your keyboard. Once this is done 
  141.    buttons will appear in the window. After a short pause one of the buttons 
  142.    will light up and the message "YOUR TURN" will appear at the top of the 
  143.    window. This means that it is time for you to select the same button that 
  144.    was just shown to you. If you make the correct selection the sequence of 
  145.    button selections shown to you will increase by one and you will once 
  146.    again be required to repeat the button sequence just shown to you.

  148.    Types of games
  149.    There are four different types of games to choose from. These different 
  150.    games can be selected under the Game Definition entry under the Game menu 
  151.    item. When the 3 Buttons, 4 Buttons, or 6 Buttons game is selected, the 
  152.    specified number of buttons will remain throughout the game. As you play 
  153.    these games, the sequence of button selections will continue to increase 
  154.    by one until you make an incorrect selection. Once you make a mistake the 
  155.    sequence will start back at one and increase by one again until your next 
  156.    mistake. The Progressive game is a little different. There are goals that 
  157.    enable you to advance to higher levels. The goal represents the length of 
  158.    a sequence that you must complete successfully to advance to the next 
  159.    level. The next level represents a different button configuration which 
  160.    contains one more button then the previous level. Once you complete one 
  161.    goal, the number of buttons on your screen will increase by one and the 
  162.    sequence length will reset to one. When you make a mistake, the game will 
  163.    reset to level one, sequence one, no matter what level or sequence you 
  164.    are presently on.

  166.    Game over
  167.    Once you have made three incorrect selections the game is over. If you 
  168.    have scored enough points to make the high score, the High Score dialog 
  169.    box will automatically display to allow you to enter your name.
